Gaz recently put on here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/index.php?threads/572076/ some lovely photos of his dad.

That made me think that the trend seems to be that people/pro - photographers take pictures of children, children+parents but it's seems rare that the generation above us is included.

My father in law past away last year at a young age and we don't have many pictures of him. It took a long time for my 3 year old to understand that her granddad won't come back and it would have been nice for the years to come that she has pictures to remember him.

You don't get a trend from one post..... and to be fair.. thats the most ridiculous statement I ahve read....all day :)

Tony, please disagree with me and show me that I am wrong but telling me that my comment is ridiculous is pointless.

In the portrait section of the forum most photos we see are of babies, children, parents+children, adults, but it’s rare to see pictures of 65+ adults.
It’s rare to see on pro-portrait photographer websites pictures of family that include grandparents.

Maybe like Ken said the majority of generational photos are never posted on the web.
Is it a case they are not shown or not taken?

My point was that we never know what tomorrow will bring; and once the ones we love are gone do we have pictures of them to remember them?

I suspect that the majority of such generational photos are never posted on the web.

This.

I'm fortunate to have lots of my grandad who passed away this time last year, and lots of him with my 4 year old daughter. But they're family snaps that I've no interest in sharing on the web, well at least not beyond my family on Facebook. They're of no great photographic merit anyway, but mean a great deal to me. I should get some more of my nana this Christmas as she's 92 now and you never know at that age whether she will be around next Christmas.

My mum did hire a pro photographer to get a load of photographs of all 4 generations a couple of years ago, but by and large, we as photographers don't tend to make older people the deliberate subject of our photographs beyond family snaps. News and documentary is probably the exception to that, but that is usually part of a bigger story.

Don't know if you're being serious or "tongue in cheek" with this response (I hope, the latter). I am one of the people who commented on the images Gaz posted of his dad, and they're a lovely set which I hope he treasures. Like many, I've now lost my own dear dad, and although I have snapshots to remember him by, I would have loved to have had images like Gaz's set to remember him by, especially in his later years.

I totally agree with Fabien ... we should be taking more shots of our more senior loved ones. Believe me ... When they're gone, they're gone!!!!
