came back from work today and we had a few citylink cards on our doormat, addressed to some one, basically citylink have attempted to deliver a parcel for someone else through our door and have left it for us at a neighbours house. so i thought simple, il go get the parcel from the neighbour and deliver it through the right door and job done. they only problem is that the parcel (an amazon package) has our address on it, so i only know the name of the person.

so what should i do. should i contact amazon by email in the hope that they will ask for it to be sent back or what? i dont much want someone elses parcel but im not going to post it back as that will cost me money.

i think the first call for me will be to see if they live at flat 2, Number 1 bird st, rather than no 2 bird st but after that im a bit stuck!

is their a proceedure for this sort of thing because for once citylink have actually done what they should have whereas its obviously an order issue or amazon issue.
 
I think you should try the plan you mention, if that doesn't work try asking if they know where the addressee lives.

unfortunately in a modern world, most people don't know their neighbours so may not be too fruitful. It's almost certain to be someone in your street as the address is correct, probably a typo on the number. depending upon how large your street is it may be worth knocking on a few doors, sooner or later you'll either get the right person or someone who knows them. Then you can ask them to change the address on amazon :)
 
If you think of what house it *could* be...like you say, Number 2, or maybe number 12?
Try a few different 'permutations', and if you don't strike it lucky....email Amazon, tell them there is a parcel you're classing as an unwanted gift.

Give them 28 days to arrange to have it collected, then if its still there after 28 days...it's yours.
 
street goes upto about 28 or so so it could be either Flat 2 no 1, 12, 21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28 etc

i aint got the time to try every house, ill try flat 2 and that'll be it and ill contact amazon, see if they can either check the address or come and collect
 
How long have you lived at the address you are at? It could be that the previous occupant of your house has forgotten to update their details and had it sent to their old address.

Of course if you don't want whatever the package is and you can't find the original owner then I'll happily take it off your hands. I'll be driving past the end of Broadgate in about half a hour so I don't mind the minor detour up to your street. :thumbs:
 
thats a point actually, unfortunetly i cant remember the name of the person whos post we get as a previous occupant and you might be right on that one actually, it may be the same person! oh well ill contact amazon.

i think rob has cracked it, IIRC we do keep getting post for a miss K west (this parcel is for karen harvey) so its believable that they could be the same person (this house previously was owned by a couple) before being sold and rented to us.

Why not ask your landlord if he has any contact details for the previous owners? that way you can give them all the other post thats being delivered.

all the other post that has been delivered has either been returned with 'no longer at this address' (for the first 3 months) and then summatively binned after that, dont know who my landlord is as we rent through an agents and they dont appear to have a clue what day of the week it is.
 
amazon are being useless as usual.
please tell us the invoice number - i replied saying that i do not wish to open the parcel as it is not addressed to me

they replied with...
please sent it back to this address and then sent us the receipt for postage so that we can re-emburse you, to that i replied that im not forking out my own money to return a parcel that is not mine (regardless of any forthcoming refund), dont really think that i should have to, plenty of couriers do collections and all that. i told them to contact the person and tell them where the parcel is and they can collect it if it is convenient for them. that way if its local then they can collect it as soon as possible

In Amazons view it's probably cheaper and easier for them to send a replacement item to the correct address assuming they have it and count what you have as lost in the post.

Word of caution here. Be carefull how you ask if they are expecting a delivery. They could say yes, it's ours, when it isnt! It could come back to haunt you!

that was part of my reasons for calling off a round the houses door knock, instead amazon can contact the rightful owner
 
Surely its the courriers fault for delvering to the wrong house, after all if they had attempted to delever to your address you'd have simply refused it. Shouldnt they be picking it up at there own cost.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know...

If you have goods delivered that you haven't ordered you can inform the sender (even that may not be mandatory) and you have 6 months for them to collect it. You don't have to post anything off to them at all. If they don't collect the goods within that time, then you can dispose of the goods as you wish.

I would open it, after all it could be one of those burglary scams, there could be a really small guy hiding in the box waiting to sneak out and nick your purse when you've gone to bed.

the courier have actually done the job they were supposed to, they delivered the parcel to the marked address and when they couldn't get a reply at our address, left it at a neighbours house for collection!

quite obviously the buyer has clicked the wrong address at checkout
 
Might there be an invoice inside the parcel with the owners email address on t? It's a long shot..or you could go to 192.com and type the name and general location into it and see what it throws up...or even facebook the name??..Depends how bored you are!

unfortunetly citylink are useless and will only collect when im at work so keep whistling amazon, i aint putting myself out for you

I get all courier deliveries and collections done at my workplace, just give the company (Amazon included) my work address. Obviously if you are on a site with 10,000 employees this may be more difficult!

whilst i would do this if its my parcel, im not doing it for this parcel, its not mine, im unconnected with it and with me working in a school, i dont know its contents so will not be taking it on site
 
i havent had a reply now since i told them that i was doing them a favour by attempting to assist them in recovering an incorrectly delivered parcel and that i should be the one doing the leg work.

will wait a few weeks and ebay it
 
I used to get loads of parcels delivered (ebay), our local postie knew where I worked, so, if the wife wasn't in he brought the parcels to the showroom for me, that's service for you. Much better than ******link etc.
 
Ordered some prints yesterday and there was a 'sorry you were out' card
behind the door this morning, we were both in, the dog didnt bark which
it usually does. So he must have breathed on the door or something..

Now got to wait 72 hours before i can pic them up, they have one bloke on
the desk and he only has one arm, it takes ruddy forever in there....

got another attempted delivery for k. harvey today, by royal mail though and they took it away again! plus 2 letters


someone by the sounds of it is unsure where they live!
 
Hmm two in a week, I'd be getting suspicious. Is there a scam in there somewhere? Possibly ID fraud of the real K Harvey, and delivering to a similar but different address?

just had a knock on the door from the people who used to live here, basically amazon have cocked up, they ordered 3 things from amazon all supposed to be (and the reciepts says so) delivered to the new address, all which got sent out with the old address on, one of the parcels that came through royal mail was caught by the redirect they paid for (and raised their concerns), but the one that came through citylink obviously didnt and the parcelfarce one hasnt been caught either (got knows what will happen to that one but heyho thats not my problem!),

so thats that sorted! they have raised a complaint with amazon about it.


it was books though! boring!
