Yes
I can't believe how paranoid some sellers are on eBay.

I have positive feedback from the past couple of months for buying a Canon 70-20mmm f2.8 and Aquatica housing for a 5D.

I then bid on a 5D and lost, but got offered a 2nd chance offer to buy which I jumped upon. I received an email from the seller saying that he'd contact me later with postage details

Later last night he sent me an email stating that my eBay email address and my paypal email address are different (even though my paypal confirmed and ebay linked street addresses were the same) and to get in touch. I then received another email this afternoon stating he'd offered it to someone else as a second chance and to contact Paypal to get my money back

He didn't even give me 24 hours to reply to his email, and both of my email addrsses are very similar (one is ricky.tillson and the other is rtillson2k). I don't get he would offer it to someone else, the street addresses were the same and Paypal confirmed, the email addresses were very similar and I'd recently received feedback as a buyer for buying expensive canon photographic equipment :bang:

Not very happy as I wanted to buy his item hence me bidding on that and not on any others

I'd be on to PP ASAP to ensure it's not some kind of scam - sounds like you've paid him already?

It can take awhile to get your money back from Paypal, then they can hold it ,to make sure everything is above board.Had almost the same thing happen to me.Took almost a month before I finally transfered the money from my Paypal account back into my bank.Hope it works out Ok for you

Yes I have paid him and am emailing him now.

I don't think he's trying to scam me out of money, I think one of the other bidders offered him a price higher than my 2nd chance

Still think paypal have to get intouch with him and wait for his reply before going ahead with the transfer back.

Sounds like you could be without the money for upto 3 weeks!

Anyway, it shouldn't be YOU that contacts paypal but HIM, and the refund will be instant.

It does sound a little scammy, but as long as he can't prove you received the item then you will get it back.

all he needs to do is go to paypal and refund, get on to paypal about it, forward the emails if you have to

How does it work with 2nd chance offers? Surely if he has offered it to you and you have paid (by PayPal) then the deal is done and he can't sell it to someone else just because they have offered a higher price?

a second chance offer is a buyitnow deal, the seller sends the buyer the second chance offer, which is a buyitnow type auction page, i think you have 24 hours to take it then it closes?

That's how I understood it Matty, and when it was offered to me I accepted and paid as soon as I possibly could.

The buyer has since received negative feedback from someone else who appeared to purchase the same item, as a Buy It Now but at one of the lowest bids.

Very confusing

Whats his ebay record (other feedback )etc, like.Has he been a member long.looking to be a bit dodgy now

Matty is correct, the seller can refund you himself from his paypal account

I would get onto the seller and tell him to refund you himself

I hope this isn't a SCAM matey... but the more I read through this thread the more I feel uneasy about the fact that it could be!

Usually a scam if you got the offer only through your email, and not in your eBay messages.
But as they say, you should be able to get it sorted via Paypal either way.

My money is back in my account.

The seller did not refund me as he has PayPal set up not to automatically receive payments. My payment was sitting there to cancel the whole time - I waited it out to see if he would send but he didn't

you should make Ebay aware of his actions though. He agreed to sell it to YOU and shouldn't have backtracked :nono:
