Hellooo. Sooo totally out of my depth in this section, but just trying to make a few inquiries.

So, I'm looking at some backdrop stands...They all mention that they're muslin stands...Anyone care to tell me how to look for paper ones/why they're different stands? :help:

thank yooooooooo, in advance! :)

Alternativley there's not some kind TP member willing to lend me some equipment (for a little fee of course) to save me some cash on buying tonnes of stuff for myself to find it ain't for me/I ain't any good? :P ;)

All background stands are basically two regular stands with a cross bar for the paper/cloth/vinyl/whatever.

Make sure it is telescoping or adjustable somehow for width.

Some manufacturers state that they're 'muslin' stands, implying they're extra heavy-duty in order to hike the price a little: muslin tends to be a bit heavier and some may worry that their 'regular' stands may not hold the weight.
From all the stands I've seen, they're all pretty similar - the best I've seen recently are Calumet's own-branded version - sturdy as anything else out there and very easy to erect on your own.

Thanks guys, as long as theirs not anything majorly different than that's OK.

So if it says the stand is a muslin one, it's safe to say it's OK to use paper rolls?
The one I;m looking at is indeed adjustable, yep :)

thanks!

Haha, definatley, Kerioak!! It's what I'd do!

That's what I thought with the muslin ones if it was the case of heavy duty etc *shrugs*

I don't plan on heavily using any of the setup, for maybe 3 events (within the same month) and maybe an odd time after that. Studio stuff isn't really my thing (but then I've never given it a go before really!)

To add, which of these seems the best?

avoid the cheap crap off ebay. The £30 set is £30 for a reason, I wouldn't trust it to hold up a sheet, let alone a roll of paper, and especially in an event situation.

The calumet ones are good.

I personally use two heavy duty calumet light stands and a manfrotto telescopic crossbeam.

The background set that elemental do is very good and will more than happily cope with paper.

Thanks for that, I figured as much with the cheapie one, yep, is that £45 not any good? I don't really know what prices to expect, nor which ones are good products just simply at a bargain!?
For instance, how's this?

Also, whilst on the subject of checking stuff - has anyone used Bessel stuff before? I'm looking at a lighting kit of theirs going on ebay atm for a really good deal. I've done a search yet. But they've got a proper website etc. and seem to have some very good products/know what they're doing?

not heard the, uh, greatest things about background source, and any company that feels the need to give all their products ridiculous 'rrp's so that the product can permenantly be '£140 off' doesn't bode well with me tbh...

is very good value, I had one accidentally (lol...) and only sold it on because I have my much heavier setup for vinyl.

Comes with a good bag too...

Fab, thanks, so the Bessel stuff will probably be good then? Seems OK to my amateur clueless self? ( this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250745017971&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT don't everyone go buying one please, waiting for some money to clear and will buy in a couple of days!! )

Re: background support, just found this one a tiny bit cheaper, is this company any good then? If not will go with the above, thanks! :)
