I've taken this panoramic photo and i'd quite like to stick it on a wall somwhere but i'm concerned about the ratio of length:width. It's currently 7:1 which I think might be a bit much so i was wondering:

Is there a particular ratio that works well for panoramic photos?

If it should be cropped for display purposes, where would you crop it? I think the trees at each end are nice but its currently 1400mm x 200mm which might look a bit silly.

The picture in question is here though:

Very nice pic - the problem with printing it like that is you'd have to get it really really wide in order for it not to look really thin vertically.

Not sure what the solution is and I have a couple like this so I'm interested too.

Are you able to shoot it again? If so, shoot more of the foreground, and sky, to give more height. Shooting with the camera in portrait orientation, is one way to get more height.

you would have been best to shoot it with camera vertical to get more sky and land in the shot, then ratio wouldnt have been so harsh here is a 180 degree shot of mine to show it doesnt have to be hyper wide http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=2673637#post2673637
with my wide angle i can get 180 in 5 shots and keep ratio sensible
i do some 12x42 inch which is 3.5 to 1, that looks fine in a frame

one thing to bear in mind if your having it framed is can they do it !! biggest mount board my frame supplier as is 42 inch....hence my max size......!!

You don't have to shoot in portrait mode to get more sky. It's ok to do it but i mostly just take all my panos in landscape mode, moving camera up and down to get more sky and there is no trouble stitching them. You could also do it in portrait mode. It's not like that you have to only take one picture then move across, take some up and down also then you have lots of room for cropping...
