Re there any apps easy to install for photoshop to create a montage photograph?
 
Large empty new canvas (in CS) and copy/paste the individual images into it on separate layers so you can alter where in the "stack" they sit.

David .....

In CS6 click on "File" pulldown and select "New" and make a new canvas to your desired size choosing 300dpi.

Open another image via Bridge which will open as a new seperate image. Once open choose the 2nd option icon down on the left called Rectangular Marquee tool. With this tool selected go over the image that is open and select all the image that is required with your mouse pointer. Once selected as required click the Copy option under Edit.

Now go back to your New Canvas you made firstly and while selected choose Paste in the Edit pulldown. You will now see the selected image open up in the New canvas. From there you can now edit and move this image around freely on the canvas.

Repeat the process to add more images to your new canvas. On the Right hand side you will see all the layers you have made which can be moved up or down to what order you require. This is beneficial if some of the images are overlapping one and another ...

Give it a try ... if you get stuck ill explain a little better if i can ...
