Have just made an accidental discovery and thought I'd share it in the event that it might be of use to others...
Was messing around with a cheapo Metz 20 C-2 flashgun and, much to my delight, discovered that my Lumix LX5 syncs all the way to 1/2000. Happy days ahead!
Off camera performance is likely to be a function of the triggers you have. Getting 1/320 with my el-cheapo CowboyStudio trigger.
