I've just received my GX7 and I'm wondering what other owners do with theirs to make day to day shooting easier for them? What function can't you live without? Have you found any interesting techniques with this camera?

I usually turn anything I don't understand off :D but I suppose it's worth thinking if any maybe obscure options and features may actually be useful. So that's my tip :D Think about what's useful and what isn't for example I ignored the electronic shutter for a while but I then realised that it is nice for silent shooting but be aware that it'll disable the flash and limit your max ISO to 3200 ( I think...)

Other than that I use any ISO up to and including the max and set the custom buttons and features to suit me.

Good luck with your new camera :D

Thanks @woof woof I'm loving it so far...

A handy feature I found is having the exposure comp reset back to 0 when shooting mode is changed or on camera restart. I'm quite forgetful so this is quite helpful!

Also the AF+MF feature is great. Can auto focus using the half press on the shutter then tweak using the ring on the lens!

The LCD touch screen can be used to move the focus point (with your right thumb) whilst looking through the View finder - very easy to track a moving subject.

If you shoot just RAW I couldnt find away of getting the images on to my iPad with the wireless and App (you can't generate a JPEG in camera like you can with a nikon DSLR).

A quick fix was to just take a screen grab on the IPad when the app displayed the RAW file there by generating a JPEG/PNG which you can upload etc.

Or just shoot raw+JPEG if it's an issue

True, never seen the point though, other for that reason. Not sure how much extra space the jpegs take mind.

Memory is cheap nowadays, so why not ?

This is the approach that I take. You then have jpegs for browsing through and RAW for a bit more PPing headroom.

The times I have shot both JPEG and raw I've been pretty impressed by the jpegs, particularly the way the camera boosts shadow detail

Fully agree, sometimes though RAW can save an image by giving a bit more flexibility in photoshop.

the RAWS seem most important when trying to recover highlight detail, particularly on the smaller sensor. I usually just leave it on RAW only

I wish lightroom could handle RAW and JPEGs better - my Lightroom ignores the JPEGs if I've shot both. If I set it to import both it treats them as separate files. I wish it would stack them automatically e.g. Display the JPEG on top and hide the RAW underneath in case you need to do any serious editing.

I agree it would be far better if they put a raw editing function in camera like most other manufacturers do.

The other thing that gets my goat is the lack of auto ISO in manual mode. Both could be easily fixed with firmware update if Panasonic wanted to.
