Hi folks,
I have recently upgraded from my trusty Canon 1100D to the spectacular Panasonic Lumix GH4, and man is this one hell of an upgrade!
First impressions... overwhelming. This is a camera with a LOT of features. The interface is intimidating at first but after using it for a while I've realised that it is more intuitive and user-friendly than the Canon/ MagicLantern combination I was using before. At the moment I have the Olympus 25mm f/1.8 lens (actual focal length is 50mm) which is perfect for me as I am used to working with the Canon 50mm f1.8.
One thing that has become clear to me is that this is a video camera! But that suits me just fine because I will be using it to make short promotional movies (I work in the fundraising department of a charity), and I also hope to get into some indie filmmaking in the near future.
I am just wanting to open up the floor here so people can discuss there experiences and advise on how to get the most out of this camera. I took some photos of the night sky last night (f/2.8, 25s, 1600 ISO), and the results were pretty damn good considering I live in London. I imagine I would get fantastic shots out in the countryside on a clear night.
Like I said, I am looking into making some short movies in the future, using this camera along with a couple of others. I am guessing before I do that I will need to get hold of some kind of rig and at least one other lens. If anyone can advise on the rig that would be great- I'm not sure whether a simple DIY shoulder-rig would be good enough or whether I would need to invest in a proper steadicam.
Thanks for reading!
