Yes
Quite a different camera to previous models in the range.

Mine is quite new to me and I'm yet to really delve into all of its functions. Bought to replace a G80 which was developing issues that made it unreliable. The speed with which the G9 can shoot is very impressive (although that ability can result in too many shots to work through at home for my liking) and I'm sure that'll help get "the" shot on occasions.

It's a tad bigger than the G80 and I think for holidays and days out and the like I'll still take the way smaller GX80. But for my wildlife walks the G9 and the big 100-300 make for a very capable combination for a very good price.

I don't yet have a spare battery and I don't think I have the fastest SD card that the camera can accommodate, but both these things will come in time, and then I'll be taking an even greater volume of shots.

In summary, I think in 2023 we are spoiled for choice when it comes to cameras and lenses for wildlife (and action) photography but I can't imagine there's a better combination for the money than the G9 and a 100-300 (or the 400) lens.

I would suggest my G90 and 100-300 is capable of taking pictures indistinguishable from the G9 / 100-300 combo. Sure a few less bells & whistles but less weight and a lot less money. Of course when we have laid down our 'hard earned' we don't want to "imagine" there may be a " better combination for the money" do we ?

Ha, bad choice of words on my part, Roy. I apologise.

That said, the G90 seems like a really rare beast and when the time came to replace my G80 I simply set myself a £400 ceiling for the new camera. I never saw a G90 but there were loads of G9s, and when a mint one came up for £380 I went for it. My combination - G9 and 100-300 has set me back £750. I still think it's a great combination for the cost - and would be hard (but not unimaginable) to beat, and although I don't think I'm getting any better photos than I did with my G80 I think, with practice, I probably will, if only through dint of the camera doing more of the work.

No need to apologise Derek, your choice of words did leave me an 'opportunity'
The G90 was cancelled by Panasonic after a short run. I think they decided to keep the G80 current and they brought in the G100. Not that the G100 is a direct competitor for the G90 but I guess too many models maybe ? I'm glad you are enjoying your G9. I have been tempted but I know I will not get better pictures that I get with my G90.

Had mine quite a while although my GX9 has had more use.
More to do with the type of photography than capability, mostly travel to European cities.
Not travelled afar so much lately due to family health issues so using the G9 most of the time now.

I've been using a G9 since the middle of 2018 and it's not let me down yet,

Mind you, the GM5s have sometimes complained that it bullies them... :naughty:

Yes, just got a 2ndhand G9 recently, took it out for a session last Sunday, an i like it. Probably shot 500 images over 5 hours! Mostly just trying out settings, an shooting at random subjects...but i did get a few keepers. Ive kinda been looking for over a year, to upgrade from my G80, but i wasnt looking too hard! Found a good deal/package localish to me, drove there an bought it.

No real difference in size/weight from my G80, but i was just using the tiny light weight Olympus 60mm macro 2.8 lens! So far so good.
I wont be using the G9 in anger, until my Butterfly/Reptile season gets underway (in a months time)...then it will get used most weekends until October, averaging 500+ shots per session (electronic shutter).
Cheers Paul.

Yeah, i get you, i mean i know there is a slight difference in size/weight, but whats 153g's between friends ;)
Ive done a little Maths myself - Pre G9 for me, was G80 + 45-150mm panny lens + Canon (52mm) 500D close up lens = 745g.
My other set up was G80 + 12-60mm panny lens + Canon (58mm) 250D close up lens = 795g.

Since i didnt have a chunky doublet quality achromat close up filter (not el-cheapo close up lightweight jobby) attached to my Olympus 60mm 2.8 macro lens, coupled to my G9, total weight of that set up = 844g. Just 50g to 100g difference in all those 3 setups then, but hey................whos counting when we are talking low numbers like that, cheers Paul. ;)

I now own the G9. Loving it.

Most annoying thing about the G9 is having to re-enter the focal length for a manual lens EVERY SINGLE TIME you switch on. Ended up leaving the camera on more than usual today to save having to quickly re input 56mm every time.

If anybody can shed light on how to get it to remember the last FL set then I'd love to hear.

Can it be set to one of the custom modes?
Not something I need to set, but it might work.

Has it been updated to the latest firmware?

I don't know if that would make any difference, but both mine remember the last focal length entered, and when you turn it on, it asks if you want to change it, and you just push "SET" for NO and they stay on the last manually entered length

There may be a menu setting for that, can't remember setting it though :)

Latest firmware. And neither setting that way nor in the menu is resulting in it staying after switch off. Worked fine on my GX80, well was quirky but generally worked.

I'll try a different adapted lens, shouldn't make a difference as it's not electronically connected but you never know.

No, trying another lens won't make a difference.

If I switch them on with no lens fitted, they bring up the last focal length set and ask if I want to change it

Didn't think it would but currently switching on with a 56mm cine lens attached reverts back to 35mm and I have to input again. Very unusual bug. Rest is working perfectly.

Yes I've changed it and pressed set. Did it in the menu options too

Have you tried a full reset?
