Hi all

Can I please get peoples opinion on the Panasonic gm1 as I currently have a Olympus m10 mk111 but I quite like the idea of this as a really compact on me all the time camera. I wouldn’t get rid of the m10 as it’s really good, or would my phone be just as good as the gm1.

Hope that all makes senses and thanks in advance

All the best

GM1 sensor quality will be a step back from the em10. Age and anti-aliasing filter. Controls more limited. No viewfinder. The compactness depends on the lens. It really needs a small soft pouch to protect it in a pocket as even a small lens like the 12-32 and 17 F1.8 will project a bit.

I keep my MFT kit for portability and I have tended to carry my em-10ii more than the GM1 - even though it is larger.

I use a pair of GM5s (GM1 with an EVF built in) as part of my basic kit and think they're very good.

Better than a phone? That will depend on you, the phone and what lenses you decide to put on the camera.

Some examples: the first three were taken with the 12~32mm and the last with the 35~100mm...

The lack of an EVF would put me off. I went for a GM5 but they're expensive, hard to find in good condition and can have contamination under the sensor glass. I recently bought a G100 which is incredibly light and has a very nice EVF but is possibly not a lot smaller than the Oly M10.

Another smallish MFT camera I can recommend is the RF styled Panasonic GX80.

Good luck choosing.

Oh, and to date I've not seen anything from any phone which stands comparison to MFT when looking closely. IMO phone shots can look lovely on a phone or even a tablet as whole pictures but when you look closely IMO issues are there to be seen.
