A couple I'm reasonably happy with today just of the usual walk to the shops but as it's quite a long way taking pictures is something to do :D

It is at any time of the year. It's lovely to be here as I feel like I'm in the middle of the countryside with the birds and butterflies and the occasional squirrel and rabbit and there are usually people with dogs too. Me and Mrs WW got to say "hello" to and pet five dogs today :D
 
Hi everybody,

Does anyone own/use the Panasonic LX100 mk ii ?

If so care to share your thoughts with me, I have owned many Panasonic cameras over the years, I currenly have a G90 but am tempted to 'indulge' myself in a
more 'pocket friendly' camera to work alongside my G90.
I have checked out Camera size so I appreciate it will need a pretty big pocket but a big 'saving' compared to carrying the G90 and a couple of lens.

How much effect does the reduced sensor 20mp to 17 mp make in terms of cropping and resolution and final image quality.

Really interested in your thoughts wherever they take you.

Thanks for any advice.
 
I'd still have my LX100 II if it had a larger zoom range. 75mm (equivalent) just isn't long enough for me so it didn't last. The different between 20MP and 17MP is negligible and exactly what you get if you crop 4:3 to 3:2.
 
I have the Mk1 LX100, and yesterday received a 16 inch square print from the mono pit-head shot I posted recently. Despite being from a measly 12 megapixel image it was flawless with no noise and great detail. A lot depends on the processing of the RAW file. I always pre-process with DxO PureRaw.

I forget what the numbers are for printing, there are threads on this now and again, but I have done A3 from my 12mp Canon 5D, 8mp Canon 20D and 6mp Canon 300D. As you drop the resolution lower the image size to viewing distance ratio comes into play so to take this to extremes you can't print a 100k file to the size of a barn door and expect to see fine detail with your nose against it :D but other than that 12mp should be perfectly wonderful for even large prints :D

Many other specific models have their own thread.
I would like to see specific threads for the G9 and G80 etc, they could all be grouped under "Panasonic M43 cameras" or even under "M43 Cameras" then the various Olympus M43s could have their own thread.

It would make sense, as it seems M43 is growing at the moment, maybe not for long, but it is now.

Panasonic G series is a bit broad, and I for one am sure I miss things.
 
I think the more you narrow it down the danger is that there'll be less contributors. This thread is slow moving now so imagine what a one model thread would look like, you'd possibly only get a couple of people posting twice a week.

Which is why I suggested expanding the title, so other models “unofficially “ talked about could attract more attention.

I use DxO Photolab3 I presume that uses the same processor as DxO Pureraw ?
 
But why restrict it to M43?

Quite a few G series owners use other Panasonic cameras such as the FX series or the Travelzooms. Perhaps just open it up to everyone who has something to contribute about the brand?

I own the LX100 II to me it's a very good little camera and even though I have not used it in quite a while it feels good in my hands, once I get back out and about it will start to get used.

Plus I'd guess that some of us have more than one Panasonic MFT camera. I think it's nice t be able to post LX100 through GM5 and up to the latest 20mp camera stuff in the same thread. Just my VHO :D

But your idea is to then have sub threads for the G9 etc which may not get a lot of traffic.

The Oly thread seems more active.

To me something like the Sony thread would be the ideal, anything Panasonic MFT or even anything Panasonic, because many people will have more than one model.

Yes, but at least then you would see all the activity if you wanted, and specific activity if you wanted that.
The thread at the moment seems to be about the cameras, and "photos you've taken today" with those cameras. If I am not mistaken (and I could well be) I have seen the self same photos posted in both threads.

Possibly the best answer is to post anything related to the equipment aspect of them in the "Talk Equipment" thread. :)

That tends to be what happens in the other threads such as the Sony, Oly, Fuji ones etc.

I think having pictures helps to keep the thread interesting. I used to only post pictures taken with either new to me kit or pictures showing some technical aspect of the kit and its capabilities such as noise handling, resolution or DR or lack of, zoom range etc., that sort of thing, but these days I tent to just post any picture I think might be of interest. If we restrict ourselves and don't post ordinary non technical pictures the thing could just stagnate as it seems to have arguably done in the past. Plus if people just post "stuff" you never know what might start someone asking questions or trigger a discussion. So I think the mundane and random stuff does help make the thread both interesting and helpful.

Well, I think it is clear I don't :D

However, looking back to the first posts, it is clear that the original thought was pictures taken with the G series, and general talk about them.

At that time the range was comparatively limited.

Most of my interest in the thread comes from the non-photo aspect.
I don't need a high post rate for that, relevant posts are more to my interest.

It is rather like people who comment on everything just to get their post count up. I would be more likely to read posts from someone who makes interesting and relevant posts than some one with a huge post count but not much to say. I am not suggesting that everyone or anyone with a high post count falls into that bracket, just commenting on the previous comments about threads getting more interest.

I also don't see an immediate connection between mundane and interesting, most things that people find mundane, they don't find interesting or helpful, if it was, it would not be mundane to them.
As random could be anything, it may or may not be interesting or helpful, and may or may not fall under a different heading.

However, I d see that most things I might post would be better placed in "Talk Equipment"

I don't know if I understand exactly what you want from a/the thread. When you say your interest is in the non photo aspect is it that you want just technical talk?

I'm not interested in post counts. I do read, comment and post a lot but that's because I'm a full time carer and tied to the house a lot so the forum is an interest and better than watching Loose Women or whatever, that's all.

Many people in the TP Forum read and contribute to the various camera-specific sub-fora because a) they own such equipment, b) they owned such equipment, or c) they are considering owning such equipment. Photos are posted either to demonstrate particular techniques, or - dare I say it - for fun. Camera-specific forums are an easy way of channeling interest.it’s totally irrelevant how many posts a person has made. I just read or ignore posts according to what they have to say. Not how voluble the author is.

No idea, sorry, never used the 7-14.
I do have the 8-18, but I prefer the 9mm now mainly for its size and versatility
its very good for close ups too which makes it even handier for my photographic purposes

It looks very good, and tempting :) however, as the 7-14 covers that length, I need to resist temptation, unless there is a compelling reason to be tempted.
