Two kits seems to make the most sense, sadly.
If starting without a bag full of lenses I'd go for Nikon or possibly Sony as they seem to have the best sensors at the moment. The only significant USP for Canon seems to be the MPE and I'm not bothered about that.

There is something about kit from days gon by . . . often, not that many days? I still have my Dads old 35mm camera from the 50's, I dont use it, but it sits on my table and I pick it up often, feels so good in hand. Considering the simplicity, he took some wonderfull pictures.
