"Panasonic G series" Owners Thread

Does anyone here have the Panasonic/leica 25mm? I could do with knowing how fast the af is in comparison to the 14mm and 20mm pancake lenses if so.

Thinking of selling both those pancakes to help fund the 25mm prime lens. That would leave me with just the 14-42 kit lens, panny/Leica 25 and gx1. Anyone think that would be restrictive?

See the G2 has gone back out of stock again with Tesco!! Got one coming for a relative on monday!! Decided to keep my G2 and sell the G3 now.

Going to try and find a 14mm too

I don't think so. at least I personally wouldn't find it restrictive at all.

Interesting, Did you find the G2 was better for you but interested in why

Only better in the handling. It felt better in my hands as i do have rather big paws!! lol

The G3's IQ is awesome though. Really stunning bit of kit. If it wasnt for my big hands i guess i would be keeping it!

Handling wise I'd rate my cameras in the following order

G1 - the perfect handling camera
EP-3 - size is spot on, superb build quality
OM-D - not had time to really use it, plus when the battery grip turns up, expect it to improve handling even more
GF3 - nothing really wrong with it given the size
G3 - hmm just feels uncomfortable

G2 still got manual controls, nice to handle. Only downside of G2 is I wish they had kept the card slot on the side, as I can only use my smaller tripod if I want to be able to take the card in and out. The QR plate on my Manfrotto 190XB is too big.

Are you sure you don't want a Voigtlader 25mm f0.95? It's a lovely lens and there are only two drawbacks... it's a little longer than some and the AF performance is a little sluggish :D Other than that it's a great lens and makes the MFT system IMVHO.

Yes I find that annoying with mine as I like to keep a plate on but if you upgrade to the G3 it is possible to remove both the battery and the memory card with the plate in place.

Sounds interesting. What sort of money is that going to set me back?

The thing is though that it allows almost full frame 50mm f1.4 levels of DoF control and it'll focus quite close, almost to macro distances, and it has lens markings (what a fantastic idea! putting markings on lenses! I do hope it catches on!) so it's pretty much perfect for...

General "standard" type use, low available light use, shallow DoF, zone focusing, candid, fast and street shooting.

IMVHO it makes the MFT system in itself :D

Here it is on my G1...

Go on... you know you want one :D

If you want shallow DOF at a cheaper price have you considered the 45mm f1.8?

I've had one but stupidly sold it. Fantastic lens with great build quality and über sharp iq. The af speed was also brilliant. Only thing was it is a bit long, if I could get the same build and iq in a 50mm equivalent that's me sorted.

I was thinking the panny/Leica 25mm would fit the bill. Not so sure now though. And sadly 800 is a bit steep for me at the moment.

£800? I paid only £399 for mine including the current cash back. I think you're looking at the four third mount version and not the μ4/3 version.....

Sorry I meant 800 for the voitlander.

I think they're talking about the Voigtlander 25mm and I'm assuming by the mention of cashback (and the price) that you're talking about the Leica ;)

Guys, is Amazon a good place to sell photographic stuff? Anyone here sold on there? Reason i ask is that as you know i am going to sell my G3 and keep the G2 and dont want to put it on ebay!! I notice some G3's on Amazon being sold 2nd hand. Is it a trustworthy place to sell from etc?

Also Cheapest on Amazon is £330, is that right for a good 2nd hand one? Not sure what price to set mine at.

Ebay for me is a place i would never dream of buying or selling from!

Can't you sell it here?

Everything I've sold on the net has been through here, costs nothing and I've never had a problem with a buyer... and everything I've bought here has been top notch too unlike the crap that always came to me from ebay.

PS. An ex of mine makes a very good living as an internet seller and she's given up on ebay and now sells through her own site or others including Amazon. Much better than ebay she sez.

Maybe it's muddying the waters a bit, but there's also the Sigma 30mm F2.8 - probably lower quality but lower price too.

Not too sure about lower qualty. The two new Sigma f2.8's are getting rave reviews and the only drawback seems to be that they're f2.8. Check out the reviews. They seem to be selling well too.

Dunno if they make a great deal of sense on MFT other than they seem good and cheap but for Nex where there seems to be a shortage of lenses maybe they make more sense.

Just got in and there was a brand new unopened Panasonic 100-300 waiting for me, got to admit after trying a few test shots I am well pleased with this lens for what I paid s/h :)

Bit confused. Brand new, unopened, but second hand?

Samens has still away to go (time wise) before he reaches that "holy grail" ;)
Please remember the no trading out-side classifieds rule.
Thanks
