"Panasonic G series" Owners Thread

Quick test shot from my GF3 (purchased 2nd hand from on here). Fantastic camera, far better than I was expecting.

Wow, that's a great shot, very nice indeed.

Thanks. The benefit of the OM/vivitar setup is that it's small and light so can shoot handheld.

Cheers
Steve

14mm looks like a cracking lens.

Anyone used one on a G2?

Yep me, works a treat... As I've said if I was on a limited budget I'd be more than happy to choose the 14mm over the 20mm, I find it more versatile with wider view and quick, quiet focussing for video :)

Wow - hoping my GX1 will produce similar stuff - missed the courier yesterday so didn't get my goodies

Do I need the 14mm and 20mm pancakes?

That's exactly what I was wondering as I have the 20 and 14-45.

The 14mm will stay on my GF3 and I may take the 20mm too, I've ordered the Panny Leica 25mm f1.4 for my ep3 and future OMD. A bit overkill in that range I know.

How much does a 2nd hand 14-42 Pannasonic lens go for as i am thinking of selling mine to get a 14mm

When logging in I no longer head for Canon classifieds but instead head for the this thread and "other brands classifieds" does that mean I am nearly converted to M4/3 ;)

Yes, that's what I've been doing ;)

the 14-45 zoom here set at 14mm seems to be quite good
i have done minimal work with LR3 but no sharpening
at this stage i was using the exposure lock a lot then recomposing in aperture priority which seemed to suit, normally i just set on programme.
cheers

Looks nice on my iPhone, colours really popping, assume that's from LR?

That is a gross under statement ;)

I just looked at the original image via the link. The brass plate on the front of the boat in the foreground shows it is serial No S6763, the red sign in the far distance reads ‘Casino La Venezia’ the clock tower reads 11.50 and the jet plane in the sky appears to be an Easy Jet with the orange tale.

Now that it was I call a sharp image.

First proper use with my Walimex (Samyang) 7.5mm fisheye, mounted on ye olde Panasonic G1.
Really tricky to avoid getting your shadow in such a wide shot, when the sun is high and behind you. Had so much fun with this lens I didn't notice the tide coming in.

If you can afford them both, I'd get both... The iq of the 20mm seems better, and the extra stop of aperture is nice. But if I had to choose I think I'd side with the 14mm... I'm going to get the 45mm Oly lens so I have the "set", then stop buying lenses. Maybe

Why would you choose the 14mm over the 20mm, interested in your comments!!

Wider (FoV), smaller, faster (AF), quieter, cheaper.

well you can see why i fell in love with the G1 and the 14-45 lens
it knocks spots off my previous kit camera...e-420.. which i think had the inferior 17.5-45 zuiko zoom
this time i blame the camera for the results...

really though all the shots i got in malta in good light with speeds at around 1/1000 and iso 100 were far in excess of what i expected
just have to concentrate on pp composition now..cropping etc

many thanks

Been looking forward to seeing some stuff from you with this lens. Would love to see some more, as I am very tempted by this.

Simon.

A couple from the Flying Scotsman Rally on Saturday. Managed 10 photos before the torrential rain arrived and I had to put the camera away.

Both taken with a GH2 + 14-140mm lens.

Cheers,

Simon.

I can't really put it any better than this!

I like the angle more, always been into wider views, the size sits perfectly on a GFx giving a very compact and high quality setup, the AF is way better for video, and the price is right. I've taken most of my m43 images with the 14mm and they look alright to me. The GF2+14mm combo was a real eye-opener for me after using a bunch of either not-bad-but-not-great compacts (Panny LX) or not-very-compact compacts (Canon G-series).

Don't get me wrong, the 20mm is a great lens to have also, I just think it's a tad pricey  If the 14mm was that stop faster I just wouldn't have bothered with the 20mm at all, the improvement in iq is (to my eyes) not massive, but that might just be me :)

Looks like I'd better order a 14mm too then :bonk:

Has anyone found a decent ND 8/10 filter to fit these smaller sizes, I could have put one to good use in the past few days.

I've not, but been leaving step-up rings to 52mm (and cheapo lens caps) on my primes, as this is the same size as the kit zooms. When buying my CPL, I found that some small sizes were more expensive than 52mm, so it seemed sensible to standardize... Kenko Pro-1D if anyone's interested, way cheaper than the Hoya and apparently exactly the same filter, as Hoya is owned by Kenko. According to the internets at least

Cheers:thumbs: that makes sense so I am thinking step up rings and one of these

Not sure what you mean by the original being so small. I reduced the image size before uploading it to flickr as I always do if that's what you mean. Number 2 is as shot with only a very slight trim to hide part of a cone on the lhs.

If anyone knows of a 14mm going for sale let me know
They do crop up reasonably regularly in the classifieds, lots of people seem to buy them in kits then immediately think they should replace it with a zoom... All the better for those in the know ;)
