"Panasonic G series" Owners Thread

Are you sure?

Maybe it's just the background in the shots that you don't like? If so that's a completely different thing. I'm pretty sure that you'd like the "bokeh" if the shots had a different background.

Agree looking at a number of 25mm shots on Flickr etc it looks superb, going to order one today :)

I love it, it takes some pin sharp images :)

Is it better than the 20mm f1.7?

I've not tried the 20mm, so can't comment, but the image and build quality of the 25mm are excellent :)

First day out with the Olympus 45mm and although I am unable to to view them on the pc at the moment I can see from the lcd that I am going to like the results.

Sounds promising.

I'm about to get one of these I reckon, been holding out for a used one but they don't seem to be coming up very often, so will probably just buy new, much as it pains me ;)

Yeah I'd never sell my 45, for the money I'd say it's one of the essential lenses for m43's

You're not helping me to resist buying ;)

There's an interesting little vid review of the OM-D by Steve Huff...

http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2012/04/19/very-1st-look-video-at-the-olympus-om-d-e-m5-review-soon/

This camera looks to be pushing MFT image quality forward but as with all new cameras and systems these days there always seems to be something to put nit picking little me off and this time it's the lack of a built in flash, not being able to turn the back screen to the body and that very strange "fan" noise.

So, for various reasons I've now rejected the Fuji X Pro 1, the X100, the Nex 7 and the OM-D. Looks like I just can't spend my money these days :gag: :D

Very sensible, I can understand not going for Fujis (bugs, slow af, price) and the lack of emount lenses for nex systems rules them out for me.

I'm surprised at how sensible I'm being.

I like buying new toys but so far none of the new cameras have grabbed me sufficiently to want to buy them.

PS. The Sigma 19 and 30mm f2.8's look to be very good and if they were f1.4's I'd be much more likely to bite, but even then they're still no marking FBW lenses and that's what drove me to using a manual lens on MFT. I just don't know if I want to buy into another system with which manual lenses seem to be the best choice for me.

Picked up my new G2 from Tesco today!! £189 with a voucher!!!!!!!! Awesome price.

Any pointers for using the camera people? Any hints and tips?

that is a good site with all the mega bargains...worth watching every day and posting on if you find one...after you have bought yours of course

Just bought the Panny 100-300 lens and can't wait to give it a test drive....if only the weather would improve

Great lens, you'll love it!

What kind of stuff you going to shoot with it?

Still none the wiser, only 1 hit, and it's this thread.

I suggested that with a wink because when I googled it the top result was this thread:D

1 from the 45mm for you Mal ;) (also more or less at the closest focus point)

I finally did it and sold all my canon DSLR gear, m43's all the way for me now, suits my photography subject matter. Going to feel strange having no FF DSLR or L lenses, but was not using them much at all.

It could be decision time for me this week, I have 5 consecutive days of photographic opportunities and I am only taking the M4/3 out with me.

G1 infra red converted 720nm. 20mm Pancake
G2 14-45 GX powerzoom.
G3 Olympus 45mm.
GF1 14mm Pancake ...unused so far.

Panasonic 45-200...unused so far.
Panasonic 14-45...unused so far.
Samyang 8mm fisheye...unused so far.

An enjoyable experience and despite all that kit in a Lowepro Classified 200 AW I would still consider it a lightweight kit.

you can send it to me ! :naughty:

tbh - I see the same problem. I bet the GH3 will be a gem. not that I need a camera now.

I do like my toys but there's little point buying something that'll quickly turn into a disappointment or frustration and the on line reviews and user experience seems to point towards lots of kit not being for me at the moment. I think it's very unlikely that I'll be buying any new DSLR gear though unless something breaks.

it really is a shame that fuji has many issues as well as the om-d. for me I would spend the money on gh2.
really wanted to buy the fuji x100, but got hexar af + good scanner instead. less knobs and bits, less not to like. the m43rds rumor site posted a panasonic rangefinder style weirdo. looks promising to me.

Having considered selling my DSLR for months I'm glad it's done now.

Quite a few recent cameras seem so close to my ideal but seem to falter somehow. I've been following the various Panny rumours and I'd probably buy a GF1 form camera with a built in VF and the rumoured in body IS would be very welcome but patents don't always turn into products. All in all I'll have to reluctantly accept that the gear isn't going and isn't going to go in the direction I'd like.

What I would buy... a small form camera with small form lenses with markings, AF and usable MF, a screen that will turn to the body and a hybrid VF with EVF for good and low light and OVF for almost total darkness. I wont hold my breath.

almost sounds like a G3, perhaps it's successor will be the one for you?

Remembering using the older Canon DSLR's? .... they all handled 95% the same, 20d, 30D, 40d, 50d etc. if you owned one, you could pick up another and use it right away.

I have a feeling that it would be quite hard to have a different lens on each G body and use the bodies consecutively as the buttons and menus etc are quite a bit different.

If it were me, I think I'd rather stick with one body and change lenses so I could be fully conversant with that body. But I do get in a muddle!!!!! :)

I originally thought the same, but it's not hard learning the layout of a couple of bodies. Now having one bag with a number of bodies all with lenses attached is simply fantastic, no down time, no changing lenses and risking dropping something.

Its not been a problem so far Janice:), the only difference for me once the menus are set and using manual is switching from the front thumb wheel to the rear, I much prefer the thumb wheel on the front so will be swapping the G2 for a G1 very soon.

It may seem crazy to some but I feel the same way Julian, on walkabout today in Buxton I had my G3 and G1 IR around my neck hanging at different heights and it was easy to choose between the two, the other two were easily accessible in the bag.

quite agree. g5 will probably do the trick in general.

Quick test shot from my GF3 (purchased 2nd hand from on here). Fantastic camera, far better than I was expecting.

Blimey..thats a great shot.

The exposure is spot on. Did you use matrix metering?

Finally managed to shoot some early morning dew shots this morning. I had my 2 monkeys acting as human lightstands holding my flashgun and ended up with some shots I was happy with. Taken on my GF1 with OM 50mm 3.5 and vivitar extension tubes. The dew drops were around 2-3mm across on the ends of blades of grass. There's definitely still life left in the GF1 with good conditions ;0)

The only downside of F11 macro shots is making the sensor gunk stand out!

Cheers

Loving these, great work

I've tried a few shots with the GF2 with Tamron 90mm and m43 adaptor, but wasn't very happy with the results, maybe need to revisit that combo...
