Has it got the latest firmware? It's truly amazing !!!

Yes, I put it on before using it. Just seems to lock on even with my shaky hands! Knocks the socks off my old Canon 70-300

Long shot here . . . . Anybody got/used Walimex pro 7.5mm fisheye?

I'd be interested to hear any experiences of using this lens as well :-)

Imo useful to add that it's branded as Samyang as well :)
there were few posts about it from one user few pages back .

Yep, there is a Samyang 8mm I think, search is coming up with nothing, sure I remember something on here, but it was more than a few pages back

Walimex is samyang as is vivitar and rokinon and optika and several others I believe. It's a 7.5mm lens and its very nice thanks. Well built a good price and it is sharp for something so wide and distorted. There are plenty of pics with it on Flickr. Is this the one you are asking about?

Got mine here.

Great service and of course cheap :)

Yep that's it, do you have shots to post?

The G1 and 14-42 lens arrived yesterday and I'm really happy with them. The setup feels so nice in my hands and I love the build quality of the camera, feels really solid.
The movable screen is pretty cool, but I still tend to use the viewfinder as that's what I'm used to with the DSLR.
I spent yesterday trying to put it through its paces with the cats, but they got bored after a few minutes and wouldn't sit still! The result of that was lots of blurred heads and bodies, but I will try again today.
I've put my Canon stuff in the classifieds and when I get that sold I'll use the money to get a telephoto and a small prime.

It's probably just me but I feel like I need to hold the camera "steadier" to get the photos sharp and not blurred. and when it's sharp I really love the results.

I have the G1 converted to IR and I also have the G3, for me the G1 feels a lot better in my hands than the G3 and has the advantage of switching over from screen to EVF automatically, a feature dropped for the G3.

silly question but - wireless triggers NonTTL does work on panasonics right ? just to double check before I buy them.

I find switching automatically is a real pain in the butt! I disabled it on the G2 immediately. Every time your hand or something passes the sensor the screen goes off.
I wouldn't be surprised if they got complaints and changed it in the G3! :)

Which ones are you looking at? They have to be specific to Panasonic or Olympus for the connectors to get a signal and work I believe.

any advice on settings however would be appreciated

One of mine from the Samyang 7.5mm fisheye on GF1:

Nice, thanks for posting!!!

I can't decide if I should get one or take the hit and go for the 7-14mm

try here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1777432@N21/pool/with/6790285276/

or here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/samyang-7_5mm-3_5-fisheye-mft/pool/

although the 7-14 would have full electronic functionality in comparison to the fully manual samyang and having seen some pictures is a nice piece of kit, would you really use it at the 14mm end? won't you just keep it at the widest 7mm end for the effect? would you really use the zoom element of it? and of course the £650 difference. if i could afford it i'd probably go for the 7-14 but i'm really happy with my samyang and it takes great pics even if i haven't fully worked out what type of angles and shots really work on it :)

They are very different beasts. Even though they are both "7mm" or thereabouts, the Samyang is a fisheye (stereographic-like projection) with a 180° diagonal field of view while the 7-14 is a normal rectilinear lens (just very wide) with a 114° FoV.

So the Samyang is seriously wider and makes objects curve. The 7-14 at the wide end has massive perspective "distortion", stretching objects out.

I don't think either can replace the other. If you are going to have only one, choose wisely :)

good point, i hadn't thought about the rectilinear vs fisheye aspect. shows what i know:D

oooow the choice just got harder!

I feel the same. I got my G1 yesterday and I've had my FZ7 since launch. I find the FZ7 very easy to use and that was a deciding factor for me in sticking with Panasonic.

Great words, thanks and food for thought

Thanks, some cracking shots in the Flickr group too. Looks really sharp at the edges

I'm just about to dip my toe in the waters here. I want a small and compact travel camera to take on business trips and family holidays. Size is important - I have a TZ3 which is ideal size wise, but the pictures are dire compared to what I can get out of the 5D2.

I'm settled on a GX1 and would love the 14-42 power zoom but I'm concerned by the reports of blurred images at the long end and between 1/60 and 1/200 - shown nicely here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/PanasonicDMCGX1/page16.asp#lens

Has anyone who owns this combination noticed this in real usage scenarios? I don't envisage this camera ever being used on a tripod - if I'm taking a tripod, I'll just take the 5D2 and be done with it. Something that is actually pocketable is worth a lot to me, but I don't want to forego image quality for it. That seems pointless.

Thoughts?

I have a 5D2 and G1, G3. I enjoy taking out all three when going on to take shots specifically. I find a good mix is 5D2+17-40 G1+45 and G3+100-300 Great combo without needing to take extra lenses. Having m43 gear means I have the capacity to travel light without compromising too much on IQ

I still also take my 5d2/24-105 with me alongside the IR G1 and G3, plus the 14mm, 20mm, 14-45, and 45-200, I am a bit undecided as to what exactly I need, but I am tempted to add the Samyang
7.5 fish eye and sell the Canon fish eye as that would be a more flexible than the Canon which will not give me 180 deg the IR 40D.

A day trip to to the Fife coastline and collect a 100-300 and/or the 7-14 from Kerso's sister also sounds appealing :) I always collect my purchases from Kerso and give my better half and the two pooches a day out in the bargain.

Think I've talked myself into the Walimex/Samyang fisheye

My other decision is OM-D with or without 12-50mm weather-sealed lens. Not sure I'd really use it that much but only £150 more with it and the lens costs over £350 on it's own.

Keeping my 5D2, but I'll probably sell my Canon 100-400 as the Panasonic 100-300 is much more usable given size/weight.

Well my hand slipped on Amazon and I've ordered the Walimex fisheye (black) :naughty:

My finger is twitching at this very moment, I think it makes a lot of sense considering also I will get more than the cost returned on selling the Canon.

What's the price on them at the moment then?
I do love the shots a fisheye produces, but I just cannot afford £200 on a lens I would only use occasionally.
I wonder if there is a cheap adapter that would attach to a lens to do a similar job?

Has anybody got a lowepro or similar case for their 100-300?

I want one that fits the lens only as snug as possible.

By my measurements the lens is 14cm x 9cm.

I've spotted a case with internal measurements of 13x9, I'm just wondering if it would actually fit?

I want something padded and that will go on a belt.

yongnuo squared ones.
other brand flashes work on my camera. I'm thinking that the triggers should too ?

Another Samyang fisheye shot.. this is more typical because there's verticals in the shot:

The shopping centre one above in B&W is very forgiving with it's round shapes :)
