I'm looking forward to the Oly 12mm F2 - would be the perfect focal length for a wide prime!

Still tempted by the 14mm F2.5 though... as well

I thought I wouldn't like the 14mm after having the 20mm - but I ended up with both and also ended up using the 14mm almost exclusively. It's not that much slower than the 20mm and I found its fov suited me a bit more. Handily it's loads smaller than the 20 and the AF so much faster.

Shame with the present supply issues there's not an easy way to have a go with both before buying :-(
 
I was looking to add a pancake to my 14-45 i already had and with the appearance of the 14mm it's put a spanner in the works

Looks like Steelfish likes them both to a point does anyone else have both and if you could only have one which would it be
 
I've not used the 14mm, but for me I am often shooting in low light with the GF1, and I find ISO 800 and f1.7 is often still not getting me a great shutter speed, so I reckon the 14mm would be too slow for me.

I think if I was going to chose one for everyday use, i would go for the 20mm, (or ideally, a 17mm). Its very close to the old standard 35mm lens that has been so popular over the years. I have a 36mm equivalent lens on my X1 and its the camera that goes everywhere with me. Its not very often I really need anything wider and the image resolution is so good, i can crop almost every shot to 100% and its still sharp as a knife. The 20mm should be almost as good.

oh, nearly forgot why I was looking in. I just got my G2 and took it out with the 14-42 lens. Heres one of my first shots of a ladybird on a windy branch. I was very pleased with the quality.

If I was going to vote for a new lens for the G series, i would want a proper macro lens.

Nice shot!

I'm looking at doing some G series macro. Hopefully got a Raynox 250 on the way.

But the best way to do some macro is using old manual lenses along with the appropriate adapter. I would really like a Canon 50mm FD Macro with the 1:1 converter myself.

Very nice Allan, nice and sharp, I do this a lot with my G1, almost negates the need for a macro, zoom in on a crop and it stays sharp!

Strange I have been wearing glasses for 50 years, looked at your lady bird . . . took my glasses of . . . wow, super sharp!!! Strange what one finds out about ones self . . . :shrug::lol:

That's the lens i use for a bit of macro with very good results.
 
I must have had hundreds of camera cases, most of which I sold because they were too big, too small, too ugly, too pretty :naughty: or just plain wrong.
I look back fondly to the times when there was an ever ready case for just about every camera and lens combination ( there were far less cameras then)
So, the point is, I want a snug fitting case for G2 with 45-200 lens attached.
Any ideas?

It's better than the Panasonic Leica for macro, superb lens

I would have thought anything that was snug on an old SLR with 35-70 attached would be about right for Gseries and 45-200.
 
Thanks Alan, your right of course, but I was looking for someone to say they use xxxx product and it fits nicely and doesnt look like a small handbag :naughty:

I use a CCS Warthog for my G1 and 45-200mm. Can't say it's snug but it's well protected. Don't think it looks like a handbag. ;)
 
I'm thinking of buying a flash for my GF1, G1 and have been looking at the Panasonic, Nissin, and the Metz. I was considering the Di466FT. Has anyone experience of these or can suggest a better alternative. I would go a little more expensive is needed.

First pics since the death of my partner last week, trying hard to come to terms with this terrible loss, and with the Funeral on Thursday at this Church things are not easy. But after half hour visit in the peace of the church I felt a lot better.

Here you go Allan, my solution with my G1, 'KATA DC435', takes camera/45-200 attached and the 14-45 sits under the grip side of the body, plus a polarising filter, cloth wipe, spare battery and a couple of cards. External dimensions: approx; w7"xh7"xd5", I then put the lot in my man bag . . . although there is a strap supplies.

Spent a couple of hours at WH/Express one afternoon, with my D90 and the G1, wanted a bag that was minimalist, ended up with two, 437 for the D90/18-70 and this one for the G1 package. The whole idea was 'light/minimalist/compact'!!! . . . to fit in my man bag for every day use, the G1/lens package is perfect! makes the system modular, one bag out the other bag in depending on which camera I want . . . afraid the G1 is the 24/7 winner on usage stakes.

That actually looks a nice bit of kit. I have had Kata bags before and really liked them. I have a medium size Nat geographic bag ( man bag styley) that will probably accommodate it nicely.

I have a similarly styled Camlink one, but it's bigger, I can carry the GH1 + 2 lenses as well as a film SLR or flash, that's without the filters batteries and other trinkets in the outside pockets.

I really do need to find a small waterproof bag that'll just hold the GH1 + 14-45mm.

I'm slightly biased as i both have and am selling my di466ft. I can only really say that it's worked flawlessly for me in both manual and ittl modes. It's just about the right size for the camera (the di622 was far too big and top heavy)!

With bounce flash it gives awesome results, only a shame that it tilts but doesn't swivel for portrait orientation. Off camera as a slave to the main flash it is fine and I've yet to experience a misfire. It's been more dependable results wise than my di622 for Nikon on a Nikon.
 
I forgot to say that i think the equivalent Metz is not an auto zoom model and the proper Panasonic flash seemed hideously overpriced.
 
Joe, which flash are you keeping?

I think the Oly flash works on panasonic too - might be worth double checking

Can anyone recommend a bag for the GF2? I want one that is as small as possible that will fit it with the 14-42 or maybe just the 14mm pancake. I am more interested in something that will provide padding while it's in my rucksack rather than something specifically to carry it around in.

None, simply because I have no need of a flash, but if I did I'd have the Nissin.

You're right the Olympus one will work on Panasonic. I think the only difference is that Olympus m43 bodies use the af assist light on the flash - even though the Nissin has the light, Panasonic firmware won't use it. V. Annoying.

I had a medium 'NG' bag to start with, liked the style but took it back, it looks large enough, but when it came down to it, it was a bit tight and the flap studs were really difficult to undo and do up? That was when I had just the D90, probably be OK size wise with the G1 kit, might even have got a sandwich in there . . . :lol:

Just checked my NG, its a Large. I had a Medium too and sent it back, it was too small. The large is great, I got a D200 with 80-200 and the X1 and a couple of lenses, a Mars bar and bottle of water, 3 sandwiches and a slice of cake and two apples. Probably could have got more in but Mrs A wanted to turn the light out and go to sleep. Worked quite well as a pillow too but I had to take the apples out. :naughty:

One of the critical factors I had to keep in mind when I was looking at the practicality of the minimalist option; My car has a gap between the two front seats, no plastic arm rest or thingamajigs. The dog thinks its wonderful, a mobile kennel with a walk way from front to back!

My camera/man-bag, sits perfectly in the gap between the two front seats for quick draw action!!!! much to the dismay of Oliver the dog, he has to climb . . . :lol:

I like the National Geographic styling, very 'Indiana Jones', not so sure about the light green colour? Have they don anything about those flap fasteners Allan?

The two fasteners that hold the flap down are awkward, but they work. I generally leave them undone, with the top zipped up its pretty secure anyway and doesnt gape open at all.
I have a small NG bag/case for the X1 that also fits inside the larger one. Although there is an inner case that holds the G2, I think I will get one of the Kata bags and use it like you.

Im very sorry to hear your sad news. We will be thinking of you on Thursday and hoping all goes well.
Each time you go out to take photos now, take them in honour of your partner. x
