"Panasonic G series" Owners Thread

Robb - sorry about your license issues - let me know if you want me to drive you around on a photography expedition. Don't think I am up to any biking at the moment.

550D also looks very good for the cash. I am looking at the D7000 that's coming out soon as well.

The thing is though, my favourite type of photography really is landscapes - and I just feel like full frame cameras have a certain magic in terms of colour depth and dynamic range (unless I am imagining it). I just wish the 5D II had slightly better AF and fps.

cheers for the offer. Getting used to expensive buses! At least the uni bus from Heysham is pretty regular & the kids like riding the bus.
If it's nice I can take a gentle ride on the bike.
I'm on 4 day weeks now as well. Fatigue has been a killer, so I get Friday off for a long weekend.

What about a 2nd hand D700, supposed be great for landscape and good at high iso plus pretty decent AF performance.
Other 2nd hand option would be the fuji S2(?), based on D200 body but Fuji's awesome 12/6mp sensor(depending how you view it). Dynamic range is up there with the best.

Love the pic of your son KayJay. Interested to know how you find using the 5d Mk II compared to the GF1 - I've been thinking about getting a DSLR to complement the GF1 for a while and that is one I'm considering. Are you using the 5D for paid work? That's partly what I am thinking of it for.

Just want to thank everyone again for all the kind words and support - and I'm sorry for my fit of silliness. Been having a bit of a rough time lately and it really has been touching to have everyone be so supportive, even if I don't know any of you IRL. If you are ever up in my neck of the woods give me shout and we can go out and take some pics. :)

Thanks mate. Yeah I use the 5d2 for assignments and paid work. The GF1 is the camera I use most simply because it's size makes it so accessible. In terms of image quality the 5D2 is miles ahead of the GF1 and the ISO performance is outstanding.

I sometimes feel a bit guilty not using the 5d2 as much as I should but at the end of the day you choose the right tool for the job. Once I get my lighting setup I'll be using it a lot more.

Also, every one goes through tough times mate. It's how you handle it that matters and you're handling it just fine :)

Know what you mean about the fatigue! 4 day week sounds like a good plan.

D700 looks perfect, except I am quite keen on being able to shoot video as well. I want a D800, or maybe a 5D MK III :). Sort of thinking of just getting a 5D MK I and a couple of nice lenses for now.

Cheers KayJay.

Few more pics from the found camera...

Does anyone else see this thread stacked next to one called "elitism-why?" and think we may not have chosen the best title? ;)

I concur.

Can't see what the problem is...Makes it easy really to post about GF1.

Think in a way could have been Called The GF1 ...G1...G2

But not a problem to me

This is why I think it's nice to keep this thread. For general matters "micro 4/3"the other thread is great but sometimes we want to tak about things which are specific to the GF1. I do see David's point that it should also apply to all G series, so should I change the name of the thread to read "Specifically for owners of Panasonic G Series Cameras"?

Thanks :)

Yup just went and picked up the camera from the VC in Glenridding.

It was taken at Dale Head near Ullswater in the Lakes, just before I lost the camera.

Looks a really nice place, must get up to the Lakes one day, but it's a very long drive from here. Just curious - what does VC stand for other than Victoria Cross?

VC = Viet Cong

Or possibly Visitors Centre :)

Yeah the Lakes is lovely - best to avoid during school holidays though, it can get horrendously busy.

Well I just had some amazing news - someone has handed in my GF1!!! So I'm getting my baby back!!! :D :D :D

That's a really pleasnat surprise I'm sure. Good to know there are still nice people out there.

I think the point is it's the "elitist" sound of GF1 owners only rather than the traditional and more welcoming GF1 owners thread ;)

I don't know about you but the last thing we need on this thread are plebeians putting their mostly irrelevant opinions across.
:D

*waits for rotten fruit and veg to be thrown by the plebs from their market stalls*

No. I have limited time as it is. If I have to start going through loads of stuff irrelevant to me then I'll give up here. As it is, the micro 4/3 thread only gets an occasional glance from me now.

Doesnt that make you feel good? I "lost" my Nikon D80 a while ago, left it on the lawn at our local castle. I got a phone call from someone who knew someone else who had found it and taken it home for safekeeping. I had it back within a couple of hours, and picked up some business along the way. There are a lot of good honest people out there and its so heartwarming when you come across them

Slowed up on here of late...perhaps it is the title, and should be GF1 G1 & G2 Owners Thread.....worth a try perhaps?

Suggestion taken David. It's a shame we've been deserted, I find the micro 4/3 link really boring as there is very little about the G series, and I just don't want to plough through the irrelevant information.

That Title looks very good, should encourage some back Barbara

Just been out for paper found this on door on my return, taken GF1 1.7 Auto !!

Agree with you Barbara

Stunning pics Julian

What about 'Panasonic G series cameras' as a thread title?

After a brief break from the gf-1 I have come back and delighted to be so!

I tried a couple highly rated compacts I just couldn't accept the IQ which was a mile away from my DSLR. I bought a Sony Nex 5 which was truly wonderful and produced fantastic IQ but the lens choice was VERY limited and the roadmap for new lenses was way down the line.

And then ..............

Panasonic announced the 14mm 2.5!!!!!!!!

So - I got myself a superb gf-1 and 20mm from the forums here, bought myself a 45mm 2.8, a used 14-45 and have ordered the 14mm. And I am delighted to be back. Hopefully the 14mm will arrive soon so I am hoping to have a lovely small outfit of 3 prime lenses which will give me a nice af version of my old M8 outfit

I've seen a few gf-1's for sale lately and would be interested how many people have come back to the mft fold

well I had a G1 for a while and decided it was too bulky to use as I wanted so sold it and bought an EP-1... I loved the feel of the EP-1 but it wasn't quite right so I decided to ditch that and go for an NEX 3. My time with the Sony was short lived, the flash was faulty and I think the camera may have had other issues as the images I took with it were below expectation. So now I've decided to head back to my first MFT love and have just agreed to buy another G1 with the 14-45 kit lens, I'm looking forward to having one again. This time I'm thinking I might get some adapters and play with some old lenses, any recommendations for a cheap M42 adapter and a cheap EOS one?

Peter

If you want to try some excellent cheap lenses on the G1 you could do MUCH worse than the Canon FD range. EOS lenses (EF) may be a problem as they don't have an aperture ring but I found FD lenses worked REALLY well. A decent adapter from eBay via Hong Kong/China will cost you very little.

I think you bought my E-P1 from me - if you still have it I'd buy it back :)

I was only considering and EOS adapter as I have some Canon lenses, and a G1 on the back of my 500 f4 could look amusing :D I also have a few m42 lenses from years back and it would be fun to have a play with them.

Yes I did buy the EP1 from you but unfortunately I sold it before the NEX arrived, if not I would still be using it. I see that SRS are doing it body only at a good price if you've looking for another one - http://www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk/5060/Olympus-E-P1-Silver-Digital-Camera-Body.html

Blinkin' flip!!!!!!!!

That is cheap

Tempted to get one as a back up - and for those superb straight out of camera jpegs :)

Cheers - yup all 20mm I think

Did a panorama too using the 45-200mm

Oh and btw - I can also recommend Canon FD lenses. The 50mm 1.4 is really nice, I picked one up for £50, and the 50mm 3.5 is great for Macro.

Here's one from last night with the 50mm 1.4

Gorgeous pano.

Got a Minolta 50mm 1.7 to play with (was my dad's) with a cheap adapter from China. Not got round to messing with it yet though.
