Hi,
I have recently registered in the hope that someone can help me with my FZ18 camera. I am by no means an expert photographer, just an amateur that likes to get a good shot. I am finding with my Panasonic FZ18 that light coloured parts of my photo's are appearing bleached as if the exposure is too high yet the rest of the image is ok. Eg. I took a picture of a family picnic on a bright but not sunny day and the parasols (which were blue striped) came out bleached. A relative took almost the identical shot with a Nikon compact and the colours on the parasols were more natural and not bleached out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Chris

It would be a lot easier to help if you could post an example with the exif data intact

Ok. As you can tell I am new to this! How do I insert a picture? The icon asks me to type in a URL address. Thanks.

Thanks for your help. Below is a picture I took whilst experimenting with exposure. The baby vest on the chair is in fact white with brown stripes. I appreciate this picture was taken in sunshine so the brightness is perhaps exagerrated but hopefully it shows the problem I am having.
Thanks

Just press the exposure control button on the back and dial in -1ev and that should underexpose the shot but save the whites blowing and you can adjust the image manually in photoshop or whatever you use. hope that helps ;)

I did try -1 and -2 EV but the result on the white was pretty much the same. I also tried to reduce the contrast but again the difference was minimal.
I have had the same problem with bright skies. If I take a landscape with a generally bright sky with blue patches the blue patches become washed out.

You could change the metering mode to spot and take a reading off the white object and increase the exposure 1 stop.
