Panasonic DMC-F7Z Questions

I found a Panasonic DMC-F7Z down the back of the sofa last night but, alas, not the manual. I took it out for a play this morning to fiddle around with the settings and think I’ve managed to figure most of it out. One thing I can’t seem to find is a way to lock exposure. Does anyone know if this is possible? I’ve tried pressing the shutter half way which does lock the exposure but it seems to lock focus too which I don’t want to do.

A few quick test shots (sorry they’re so “samey” but just for purposes of comparison of modes etc.):

#1 Auto mode with backlight

#2 Auto mode without backlight

#3 Aperture priority

# 4 Manual

One more question: in auto mode, there’s an option for “backlight” which can be switched on or off. It seemed to make little difference to my shots (see above) so perhaps I’m doing something wrong or it’s meant for shooting indoors and/or with flash :shrug: Could anyone tell me more about this feature please? The ram and I were standing underneath a tree when I took the snaps and the flash didn't fire if that helps.

Going back tomorrow for a properly composed take on those horns Dark Star, I'm determined to nail 'em if it kills me (which it won't, as Jake the sheep is my mate) whatever the camera!

It may be that no one here has experience of the DMC-FZ7 but if anyone knows their way around the models that succeeded it, I'm sure they could help - please?

Thanks for that link Social Lurker, very much appreciated DSLR owner notwithstanding, I'm seriously smitten by this camera (so light, so easy, featherlight shutter touch, great auto focusing) and want to get the best from it which I just know could produce some great shots. Just Madame Muppet behind the lens that needs a slap!

Just to thank you Social Lurker, I did download and read that manual from cover to cover and it's been a godsend. In fully manual mode having explored all the different menu options this really is a great little bit of kit

There's no getting away from the fact that this camera has some shortcomings (noticed what I think is called vignetting or something - might be halos - in some pics) but overall I really do like it. And to think that I was about to give it away!
