Without getting the full treatment about "crop factors" is the panasonic 100-300mm just that, 100-300mm, on the G3 or is it equivalent to 200-600mm on a full frame body ?
I use a canon 7D with a 100-400mm so would I get a "longer reach" with a G3 and 100-300mm ?
thanks for looking !

Yep, it's still a 100-300mm lens but you will get the 35mm/FF field of view of a 200-600mm lens on a G3 (2x crop factor).

Thanks to you both ! I'd gain in so much that I've lost alot of weight to lug about ! But what about image quality ?
Anyone got some G3/100-300 xamples or experience ?

image quality would be ok if you can keep it at very low iso like under 400.
and the af wont be like the 7d.
take that back image quality looks good(if not better than the 7d).
this might help to see image quality.

Thanks "SCOTTHEHAT" ! That site has really got me thinking that there is an alternative to lugging a 7D/100-400 around the country. Just the AF to try and compare.

The AF on the 100-300 is nowhere near as good as on the 100-400 - the image quality is fine but the IS does not seem as effective on the Panasonic as on the Canon. One thing that can be annoying is the way the length of black out between shots compared with the Canon, it can make tracking a moving subject much harder. Some of the stuff in this flickr set is taken using the 100-300 - http://www.flickr.com/photos/37669825@N04/sets/72157627767593220/
