so far so good ordered a 60d via the bacs option i paid 8pm last night just got conformation and dh tracking that its shipped :)

Makes me laugh all the people that recommend we buy from a reputable UK company as they are more reliable - Hmmm, seems Panamoz are more reputable than Jessops.....

Jessops have stopped all warranties & gift cards supplied by themselves (for obvious reasons).

I'll keep using Panamoz for any future purchases!

But if more folk bought from Jessops instead of grey imports where the company does not contribute to the UK economy then maybe Jessops would still be alive and well and several thousand jobs would be safe and less of a strain on the welfare economy.....

Anyhoo...I'll just think of myself as usual. (sarcasm at it's most brutal)

Yea, stuff the reputable UK companies. Let's all buy gear that avoids UK import tax. As long as I get my luxury goods nice & cheap, who needs the public sector anyway?

Still, it's human nature and common sense (to most people) to buy the cheaper version of an identical product. Certainly for me, I got a great deal from Panamoz and also excellent customer service (in the form of Tina).

So, I saved a packet, good communications, and (from what I've heard) great after sales service. Why would I go elsewhere???

And with the current economic climate, surely it's gonna happen? Paople buying cheap I mean...

Do you really think that because so many people buy from HK that a major high street chain has gone bust over it?
I only know one other person, personally, who has ever brought grey market gear, yet, most adults i know have a camera or two (not phones) and all have been brought from the UK.
If anyone is to blame its Jessops. They haven't adjusted to 21st Century shopping habits. It is a shame for all those people who will loose their jobs but if a company doesn't keep up this is what can happen. People like to shop on line now, and on line retailers have less overheads, its a fact that this is how things are going but its silly to blame the very few that use the HK retailers.
IMO of course.

I see Play are also on the way out. This i find ironic as when they started they put some UK based retailers out of business as they were shipping form off shore and so their prices were cheaper than mainland based retailers.

Aaghr,,, waiting is sooooo overrated :)

Invoice Monday, Payd Tuesday afternoon, Shipped Wednsday evening, will you be here tomorrow or saturday? :)

Exactly. Its all very well supporting your local retailer but they in turn need to realise money is a lot tighter these days, we, the customer need supporting as well.
I realise that buying from the UK means we put a bit back in to the economy but having saved over a month and a half's worth of shopping bills when i got my 5DMKIII i feel no remorse whatsoever.

Can I just add to that....

I've heard horror stories about staff at *ahem* certain shops... particularly their lack of understanding and willingness to help/show new equipment.

I will agree it's nice to go into a shop and get advice and if I get good advice I will generally buy, but bad or lack of advice, I will go elsewhere.

This could be where Jessops went wrong, I'm not blaming the staff but their superiors who think that product training isn't important. It's not always about the sale... Get a good rapport with your customers and they WILL come back for more - I've seen it happen when I used to be a trade counter salesman - we weren't the cheapest but our product knowledge was far superior to our competitors, of which there where many local and on-line...

Haha, i know what you mean. Im pretty certain you will get it tomorrow. It gets sent straight out the moment it clears customs, none of this in to one depot, then out for delivery the next day rubbish.

Lets hope yours isnt the first to be opened at customs, thanks to this thread lol.
:gag:

To that i'd like to add that while there may not be any formal training, i know i would make an effort to get to know what im selling. I think a lot of the time people will get jobs just for the money. Nothing wrong with that but i wonder how many camera enthusiasts actually work(ed) in Jessops these days.
The old guys that i see in there seem to know a lot more than the younger, not really interest members of staff. Maybe if all the staff were keen on photography and made a point of teaching themselves about the equipment more people would go in to the shops for advice, and maybe even a purchase.

Similar story here . Ordered Monday . Shipped Tuesday ( allegedly) . Tracking info still shows it in HK from Tuesday . Emailed them today . Apologised for delay - said they will refund express shipping charge . Now expected to ship in the next 24 hours. Presume yours hasn't left HK either as your earlier post re shipping info is identical to mine :-)

Ya , my shipping info shows still the same, sent em an email to enquire about it. Payment sent on Tuesday, they got on wednsday morning, so shipped evening. So 2 - 4 working days means friday or tuesday? ... i really hate waiting ... for something ... i am an impatent fella ...

Well im about to try their warranty procedure. Ive just noticed my Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 is very soft on my 60D, and with VC on there is a noticeable shift in the VF when it engages.
Its ok apart from a Smaller image shift (or jump) on my 5DMKIII but i dont think thats good enough.

Justin1971 & Dave_Bass obviously have no idea how a market economy works in relation to sales for jobs for lower prices/taxes for us.

You two sound like opera singers warming their throats up. (do you understand?)

Nah, im a bass player, my vocals are only designed for the shower ;-)

I agree with you, im not really up on how the economy works, but i do understand i have a wage coming in and a family and camera habit to feed from what little I do earn (and from bass playing).

Odd.. still on DHL showing same thing... days are going, why dont they update info on their tracking page? ...

Has anyone paid by bank transfer? You save 5% (works out at £25 for me so kinda worth it) but just a bit concerned in case theres any issues, anyone done it before?

I did it. Saved nearly £30. And if you read here, quite a few others have done the same.

I asked for a discount and a free warranty as well as the bank transfer - so saved quite a lot over the screen price.

How much did it all come to? (if you don't mind me asking). I'm looking at getting a D7000 from Panamoz come the end of the month :)

My 70-200mm VRII paid for on Tuesday shipped from Hong Kong 11.20am Wednesday, signed for at my house just after 10am Thursday, amazing.

I sent em an email yesterday evening, no reply, nad DHL shows still same....

Does this on DHL tracking mean that DHL has my package or just that the info about my package is in their infosystem and not even picked up yet?
"Shipment information received"

"Shipment information received"

It means they have package info only . Mine showed the same until this morning . Then showed "picked up " . Now at sort facility in HK

Why so long just package info? Arent they supposed to "Ship" within 24 hours of getting payment?...

Right... Ship within 24-72 Hours ,,, so payd on tuesday afternoon/evening, so today was 72 hours already.

I got email with tracing on 9-th about 10:20am. Saying: Item shipped will be delivered within 2-4 working days. so next week tuesday latest? ....

I'm no expert on this as this is the first time I've used them . It would seem there is some delay in HK. I ordered and paid on Monday by PayPal . Received confirmation email immediately . Received "item shipped" email on Tues . Checked dhl tracking and stated 1 shipping info received . It changed to item picked up only today . Email panamoz again and complain . The least they can do is refund the shipping charge .

Yes, twice, and no issues.

Hi guys, trying to order a camera from Panamoz. How long does it take normally to hear from them? I filled in the form on the website for the BT and emailed them. Was only at the weekend but would have thought I would have heard today from them?

I would wait until tomorrow before contacting them again. Usually I get a reply within a day. It should be about 1 week from first contact to playing with your new toy.

Steve if you did it at the weekend, do remember too that it is their weekend. I imagine you will hear from them over the course of today or by tomorrow morning. I'm confident you can rest easy. They are usually very good at comms but do allow for the time difference.

Hope you are able to get your purchase organised soon ;)

My package departed London Heathrow just before noon, so ill be getting it tomorrow ya? As i am in Manchester.

Hi, a question to all who have bought your gear from HK.

How you protect your gear (theft - accident - loss - accidental damage)? Do you take out some sort of gadget insurance or something? If ya then where from?

Looked @ protectmybubble quoted about 6-7£ per month...

Mine is covered under my regular house insurance (well I think it is). Single item limit of 5K so I should be safe.
