Random post of the day.....

It's that time of year again (for me, anyway), to give the house a spring clean. I've started with the bedroom which I'm planning on painting all white. The ceiling is already white and I'm having problems seeing where I've painted with fresh white paint. I'm using a pad as it's a textured ceiling and I find the paint pad does a better job than the roller. At the minute, I'm managing to get more paint on myself and the dust sheets  and to say the ceiling is looking patchy is an understatement!

So.... any tips on how to paint a white ceiling, erm.. white?

hehe, don't they do that paint that starts off as pink then dries white, so you can see where you've been?

Good luck :)

Yes, I've tried that before and it dried so quickly that it didn't stay pink for 2 mins! I have a huge (5 ltr) tub of white paint, so I'm not buying any more.

I painted my ceilings in a kind of semi gloss (silk?) finish, it helps reflect the light making the room lighter and was easy to spot from the previous matt finish.

Easy, I have borrowed a friends husband who is plastering and refitting my kitchen then decorating all the bits that my neck won't let me do whis includes ceilings.

I could hire him out once he finishes my house......

work methodically, starting in one corner, working across the room in small stages, you should be able to judge where you've been then. Thats how I do it anyway :)

Well, that was my general idea, but I still can't see very well where I've painted :(

My tub of paint is matt, so I'm painting matt over matt. At least the walls be easier  I just have a crick in my neck from looking up all the time. And I look like 'stripe' from the Gremlins

I'd suggest...

Assuming the room has a window...start at the window end and work your way towards the wall furthest away from the window. Then work back towards the window.

If you do it the other way you get to the window, turn round look up, you will see everywhere you've missed.

Starting at the window ensures full coverage of those areas illumintated by sunlight (which show more than artificial light)

I did it back to front :bonk: Anyway, the ceiling is done now.... until tomorrow morning when I'm lying in bed looking at all the bits I missed

On to the easy bits now... painting the walls.

Another important tip is always, if possible, work during daylight hours as it is easier to see what has already been done.

Just pop down to the officers mess and ask to borrow a hand grenade ...

Then pull the pin and chuck grenade into paint tin ..... Whole room painted in no time ....

Then, er, it doesn't need painting :D

Ahhh - so what you're suggesting Joe, is that Mini needs a Scutter for the task?!
