Has anbody heard of this website before? http://www.theratbook.com I had an email through this morning about it, looks like the last thing we need to be honest. More scaremongering and without a doubt likely to turn gangs of knuckle dragging buffoons into the streets with pick axes! This has libel written all over it!

I dont have time to properly vent my feelings on this website but I did have a look and they have someone I know on this. Its all based on a rumour and a tabloid picking it up. The guy is under investigation but hasnt been charged (not for paedophilia). I think it is just a bit harsh for someone to put his name up on the basis of a rumour :shake:
 
I didn't see where they were selling cricket bats. Did I miss something? :shrug:

I think if they have been convicted in a court then its not so bad to mention them after all they have probably already been in the newspaper or on the radio but if they have not been convicted then thats dangerous...but as a parent its nice to get a heads up about the whereabouts of convicted scumbags and I cant see that a website would make them go to ground any more than a newspaper article that would also be available online.
 
A site like that brings up all kinds of issues, notably the effectiveness of the justice system. I can't help but feel it will lead to vigilanties.

And occurencies like that which took place in 2007:-

"South African born Yvette Cloete, a Pediatrician (Paediatrician in other English versions), is a specialist registrar for the Royal Gwent Hospital for almost two and half years. Some dummy confusing the term pedophile (paedophile) with pediatrics, thought she was paedophile, so they spray painted all over her home with the term “P****”. When she woke up she saw all the spray painting and got scared and is now in hiding at a friend’s house. "

It's like an online version of The Digger -given the general level of intelligence in this country look out for more of this sort of stupidity.

Whats more worrying ......... where do they get the info from and is it accurate or simply rumours, this site could lead to somone completely innocent being injured by yobs or even worse
 
I've not checked the site, but even without doing so, this is dangerous.

even a properly vetted website containing the information would be dangerous, never mind a site where anyone can throw their suggestions into a ring.

As Pete has already pointed out, I can only see this resulting in many innocent people being listed and attacked or hounded into who knows what action!

the site needs to be closed down ASAP. unfortunately it will likely spring up somewhere else under a different name with a different host.

It's exactly the same sort of stuff that you get in the "magazine" that is on sale in some parts of Glasgow, called The Digger - although the publishers of that don't appear to let a little thing like acccuracy get in the way of a good story....
 
Nattelie, as far as I can see that site doesn't cover this issue.

Yes, and some of the nutters who frequent such websites don't actually care about accuracy. A published name and address will be reason enough to torch a house.
 
This may be a daft idea, but what about reporting it to the police or even a national newspaper surely they would have a good hard look at the site and get it shut down
 
On one hand i think the site is wrong. Innocent people could get hurt but on the other hand i think, Sod it, some people get what they deserve and hope they get tracked down! Probably needs to be shut down though if innocent people could be targeted.
 
Remember back when (I think it was) the NOTW published the lists, the Paulsgrove estate's residents decided to take the matter into their own hands and the consequences would have been laughable were it not for the innocent people that were hounded and abused because the looked like the small thumbnail images in the paper.
On the surface, a website like that above may seem like a good idea, but the problem is that people think they know best, they have lost faith in the justice system and therefore think that vigilantism is acceptable, then you get mob rule and the perception of diminished responsibility with that, then the consequences do not bear thinking about.
Very scary.
 
I don't like paedophiles, I reaaaaallllyyyy don't like paedophiles, but this site is gonna get a lot of innocent people beaten quite badly because they remind someone of someone on the list.

We have to take into account that the average member of the british (or of any nation) public has troule finding two braincells to rub together and driven by the fundemental need to protect their young will do a lot of bad things :S

did you hear about a guy called Al Nino in the States getting abuse cos people read that "El Nino" was responsible for the Gulf Stream changing course ?

I really think that we should be informed if a paedophile moves into your residential area if he or she has been convicted and signs the sex offenders register just like in the states, yes it causes the culprit to be lambasted and probably makes his or her life hell but I have seen the heartbreak that shifting these animals around covertly has caused.

My friend once had a tv and video shop in wallasey on merseyside and had run it for 12 years, he rented it off a landlord who also owned a cycle shop next door and the flats above. Unbeknown to anyone other than the police a convicted paedophile had been moved into one of these flats to save him being hung in his own community somewhere near Newcastle for the havoc that he had wreaked by his horrible crimes. One day an 11 year old girl was late coming in for her tea and nobody was overly concerned until it rolled into early evening but when she still had not appeared by late evening her poor parents were frantic and were certain that something was badly wrong and there were appeals on the radio and local television stations but despite all of this it took the police TWO days to visit the paedophile that they knew all about and who was also a convicted child murderer. Upon visiting his flat he was gone but they found the body of the poor girl rolled up in a carpet, she had been abused tortured, mutilated and then murdered by this bloke who everyone felt that they needed to protect for his own safety.
Anyway they caught him trying to board a ferry to the isle of man or Ireland, that was in 1995 and he could even be back out by now so given his track record I feel that I and the general public have a right to know of his whereabouts just in case he has been planted in a location were he can do his horrible deeds again to innocent children.

I personally think that he lost all of his rights to protection and being mollycoddled by the authorities the moment that he acted upon his twisted desires, our children are more important than these animals and their human rights and this government seem far more concerned about dangerous dogs than these filthy animals.

I do not agree with naming and shaming pending cases or publishing details upon hearsay but convicted paedophiles are fair game and if the police and our government wont make us aware of their presence in our communities then it falls to the likes of this ratbook website who do it crudely, it is probably well intentioned but dangerous and somewhat misguided IF they are dishing out details without substance...but we should be told of Dangerous predators who are moved into our communities to prey on our children....*******s to the do gooders who love to protect these bottomfeeders and in my book anyone who defends these people are as bad as the active culprits.

Measures like this website go hand in hand with vigilantism and they cause these people to go under the radar and thats when the problems start. These people would have (hopefully) spent a significant time in prison, then when released they are given counselling and required to check in with their probation officers, police know who they are and they cannot work with youngsters. Do you think when their names and pictures appear on a public website they are going to do this or even stay in that neighbourhood? No. They will leave, we will lose track of them and they will possibly re-offend.
 
Just to add that i used to pop into my mates shop and drink tea and this girls dad would also call in, he was a good bloke who loved his daughter and would NEVER had let his girl play out if he knew that a monster was living close by.. His girl didnt deserve to die and he didnt deserve the pain he suffered as a coscequence.
So what if they go under the radar, we dont know who or where they are any way BUTWE SHOULD!!!

seriously put a bullet in the guy its quicker, what I don't like is the people that are innocent that get the **** from this kind of site, I reeeeaaaallllyyyy think paedophiles are broken people and unless some shrink can tell me they are fixable they should be put down, end of

but does this site pick up accused ro convicted as plenty of innocent people get convicted thats why we have courts to make sure no innocent man is punished for what he aint done, if this site gets innocent men a kicking I say take it down, paedos get enough abuse/notice off local coppers to make the weird basterds keep their heads down anyway

The paedophiles listed on the website have all been convicted, the information given on them is a matter of public record that anyone can look up.

There is nothing illegal in aggregating publicly available information in one place.

I personally think convicted paedophiles should be named and shamed.

The current system of monitoring these paedophiles has been shown time and time again to have failed, it is about time they stopped protecting these animals and started protecting our children!

I think it is high time the government introduced a system such as Megans Law into this country

It actually says "unless otherwise stated" so that's not strictly true and if it does state that a person has not been convicted, that doesn't usually stop the "there'e no smoke without fire" brigade picking up the pitchforks and torches. Often, a mere hint of an allegation is enough.
 
This site lists people who have been to court and have simply put in a plea.. there are people there who have pleaded not guilty and have a date to go back to court... yet they ahve a profile and listed as a pedophile.. complete with name address and picture...

people on here supporting this site nead a reality check :(
