Yes
This has probably been mentioned before, but if you wanted a P&S for those times when it's not practical to be carrying a SLR round, what would you buy?

My budget's fairly modest, around £200, so nothing too fancy - was thinking about the Nikon S60, but then I'd have a Canon AND a Nikon!! Imagine that ...

Any advice would be welcome, cheers

I brought a new Canon G9 from Amazon for £230 a few months ago, but they have stopped selling them. Look around and you might find a simular deal.

Thanks for the suggestions, but they look a bit on the chunky side, I was thinking more along the lines of something that easily fits in your pockets - I might be completely wrong, but that's how they look on the wonderful world of the internet!

I use a Fuji 50fd as a carry-everywhere camera, and it's a pretty good all rounder. Fuji has a refurb website where you can pick them up for just over £100

Edit: just found it at http://www.fujifilm.co.uk/shop/refurb/shop.php and the F50fd is only £96. Even stephenb's F100fd is only £124.

There is this Leica on Amazon for a very good price. Thought of buying it for my dad, but not too sure if he'd use it!

I love my Panasonic Lumix DMC FX-500, really compact, great wide angle on the zoom, full manual control if you so desire, and a touch screen. Extremely pocketable, and can be had for about £200 now

Thanks for the link snowy, had a look earlier and think I might just keep it simple and go with the z200fd - just over a ton for the refurb.

You're welcome  I got my F50fd from there a while ago, and I've been very pleased with it. The Fuji's seem to do better than most at keeping the noise down when increasing the ISO.

I've been a bit of a Fuji addict in the past ... f410, z1, z3, z5 and s9600 ... so there shouldn't be any surprises!! At least now they take SDHC cards, well the z200 does anyway!

I have a Nikon P80 which I find nice. The prices have really started to drop now, esp since they have just released the P90...

I have a Canon Ixus 80 IS and I love it, I take it everywhere (see, I own a Nikon and a Canon ;)). I got it for around £120 iirc with a leather case from Amazon a couple of months ago.

I picked up a Panasonic LZ8 (or LZ10 - not got it on me to check) with leica lens for christmas for my boyfriend.

It isn't the most compact, but I bought it primarily as it takes AA batteries - he travels to europe every month or so for work, so the batteries fit in his electric razor too, and can be easily replaced anywhere. The second reason why I bought it is becuase it has a good lens, and manual control, so I can play with it when I don't want to take my slr with me!
I haven't really taken any proper shots with it yet, but the ones I have seen, I have been hapy with. Paid about £130 for it before christmas.

A second vote for the G - a G9 would suit you down to the ground. I have the G10, same body as the 9...it fits my coat pocket happily, bit heavy for a shirt pocket, but it would fit. They are not that chunky, but they are solidly built, a lot of pros use them like me, for stuff where you don't want to be taking your bag of tricks.....the G10 produces files nearly the same size as the D3...but low light work is crap. On 100 and 200 you are fine, after that I am very disappointed. In normal use - it is stunning. I have had several DPS published and do whole features with it happily.
