weekly -OY-'s Weekly challenge thingamibob for 2022. Week 52 : Showcase (52 2022 Complete)

That's a lovely image and nice that you manage to get the whole train too. Sorry, I've no knowledge of train engines or carriages but I remember those engines from the 60s.

Thanks Stan :)

A lovely pair of 47s Dave. Lighting is just right and it’s good to see the whole length of the train.

Another great train photo Dave, you had a good vantage point.

Thanks Pete - a popular bridge spot over the railway. There were about a dozen of us lined up with cameras :)

From the viewing area at Manchester Airport.

This is the Airbus A380-800 - the biggest passenger aircraft (....Clarkson pause for the Top Gear fans)...... In the World!
It typically carries 525 people on it's full length twin decks. But is licensed for 853. That's one helluva people receptacle! :)

Amazing plane. I like the light in your chosen image. Are you sure that's Manchester as it's not raining?

It's Dry January :D

I think that I like the first shot the best Dave. The SUV in the foreground really gives impact to the sized and scale of the plane.

Thanks Bill - it does enhance the scale :)

I like the shot and came to comment on that, but I'm with Bill - the SUV really hammers home just how big the plane is. I hadn't realised in your shot in the main thread.

It's difficult as I prefer your chosen one as a shot - the light's better, the whole plane's in - but the first one is really messing with my head. The truck looks like a toy.

Nice shot (the one you used for the 52) of the beast taking off. Are Emirates still operating them? I know a number have been retired already as uneconomic due to low load factors in the last two years.

That's a receptacle and a half!
Great shots - Prefer your chosen one, but good points made about the SUV for size context too. Excellent!

Thanks - yes - this was an Emirates flight.

Thanks Simon.

Great shots of Big Bird Dave.

Cheers Dave.

I really like your chosen picture the lighting on the plane is just something else, especially for Manchester. I'll be there at the viewing platform in a couple of weeks I must remember to bring my camera.

The cafe does a very good sausage and bacon barm #justsayin :D

That's uge! #2 is my preferred shot.. it looks like its about to pounce!

Good lateral thinking there Dave. And an excellent image.
I think you have chosen the best one.

Emirates still send a couple to Dubai everyday from Heathrow.
Also I've seen a BA one going somewhere (from Heathrow) recently.

Thanks - it’s doing about 170mph at that point

Thanks - yeah this was off to Abu Dhabi. The Dubai flight was a 787 Dreamliner.

Great picture and #3 my favourite too. Really nice lighting.

A nice set Dave. I particularly like the first one and the lighting on the third is lovely. It certainly is a big beast.

Week 4 : Bottle

Octomore 11.3 - an absolutely stonking single malt whisky from Bruichladdich on the Isle of Islay. One of the most heavily peated whiskies - and absolutely gorgeous!

At 61.7% it's a sipper - even with a small amount of water to let the flavours develop.

The percentage was the first area of the photo that got my attention, that's an impressive number. I've started enjoying more whisky by working my way through a few tasting sets. I'm convinced when I started drinking neat was a no-no but my tastes must have changed as it's now only straight. But I'm only just realising the addition of water can add a new dimension, although I've not tried it yet. There is just too many malts and not enough time to get through them.

What have you tried? What have you liked more than others? Maybe I can make a few suggestions. Not the one above though if you're pretty new to it. Apart from it being sold out now, and £180 a bottle when I got mine.

I enjoyed illeach, Benrian, Glen Scotia, the smoky mix bottle in a Glenlivet create your own set. Wasn't too keen on a Dalmore, it felt like a "session" whisky if such a thing exists. From my current tasting set I still have Aerolite Lyndsay and Glenkinchie to try.

Ok - maybe try some of the more popular 10yr olds before you go too expensive. Glenfarclas, Laphroaig, Ardbeg are worth checking out. Talsker is very nice and you can get a three miniature set of the 10, Skye and Storm.

Also - it helps if you give the actual whisky rather than just the disillery name. An indivisual distillery can have whiskies that taste very different.

Oh my goodness. At that strength and cost, would you do anything other than sip it?! To me the image looks a tad tight in the frame (it's what happens when you drink isn't it? :D)

I like the lighting and the fact you can read the bottom of the glass :)

That's one helluva percentage. Probably a bit too peaty for me. That's a large glassful for a "sipper"... hope it's got a drop of water at least.
Nice image btw..

I do like a peaty whisky.

Your image is nice, but could do with a bit of space around the objects.

I've tried a good few Islay whiskies but not heard of that one until now.

I might have lost the flowers and pushed the bottle and carton closer.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Yes it's a tight shot. I wanted to emphasise the tall bottle and box as no other whisky brand uses a bottle like this or this tall. Maybe it didn't work as well as I'd hoped. :runaway:
