Hampshire Const' said:Two Closure Orders have been issued, one in Andover and one in Basingstoke, after police carried out test purchase operations.
Two premises failed the operation, each selling alcohol to people aged under 18 on two occasions during March 2012. The premises that failed were: Tesco at the Chantry Centre, Andover, and Tesco, Buckingham Parade, Kempshott, Basingstoke.
The two stores have been issued with Closure Orders under the Licensing Act 2003, to take effect at noon on Saturday, June 2 through to noon on Monday, June 4, meaning these stores will not be allowed to sell alcohol during this 48 hour closure period.
Inspector Chris White, said: “It is important that licensees and their employees understand the harm that selling alcohol to young people can do, both to the individuals and to the local community, through alcohol fuelled anti-social behaviour. We will continue to run similar operations in order to ensure the licensing laws are adhered to.
“Anyone who has information about premises that sell alcohol to minors should contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team."

It would save all the faffing shops have to do with coming up with "Think [whatever age]" policies and trying to get the denser members of staff to understand how to apply them too.
Then you could put the legal responsibility solely with the staff member who serves the person so businesses aren't at risk because of the actions of staff who can't be bothered with the hassle. Hardly fair that whole shops get shut down because of an individual not IDing someone.
So common sense out the window! How does it make sense to Id a 60yo.
Is it more sensible to lose a shopload of jobs (at least temporarily) or to ID everyone? The middle ground of using judgement obviously doesn't work (unsurprisingly as it requires people to care and to guess right) or there wouldn't be any problems.
had to laugh today.......
I am 38 2/3.
I got ID'd at Sainsbury's under their "think 25" policy by someone who to me looked about 12.
Along a similar theme. I was looking after my cousin a few years back, she was about 9. I went into a sainsburys to pick up some cigarettes and, they wouldn't serve me "incase I was buying them for her".
I had a moan, told them I felt insulted that they think im so stupid, that 1 - I would buy cigarettes for someone under age and 2 - while doing so, I would actually take them into the shop with me!
So help me out here mums and dads, if you have your children with you, how do you manage to buy any age restricted products?
On a seperate not, Sainsburys again, more years back, when you only had to be 16 to smoke, I put some petrol in the car, then got ID'd for cigarettes when I went to the till. I'd not got my ID with me this time and so stated that if I was under age, surely you cannot sell me the petrol? They said, real quote "Well I can hardly take the petrol back out of your car can I!? And for all I know, you could have stolen that car."
