Hi, I've made a thread in this section as there's possibly a simple way to do this? What I'd like to achieve is this :-

For our football team, occasionally we'll print off a photo and get the player to sign it. Mostly they're action shots from a recent match. What we'd like to achieve is, is there a way to get all of the players to autograph something (so that I can store their signatures on the PC) so that, when we print off a photo, we can add/overlay the signature on to the photo before we print it off? A lot of our players aren't local so this would make life a lot easier.

I was thinking something along the lines of signing a piece of paper, scanning into the PC and then saving.

What would I need to save it as? A jpeg? A PDF? A png?

And then to add it to the photo. I do have Photoshop but hardly ever use it, using lightroom instead in the bundle.

Is there a simple way to do this?

TIA

You could ask them to sign a piece of paper, shoot the sig with a phone, upload to the computer then make a brush in photoshop and save that.

Google how to make the brush as its ages since I've done it.

Theoretically your scanning idea should work.
You will need to save it as a file jpg should be ok simply copy the file and paste it as a layer over the photo.
However you will need it on a transparent background .
If you do it on a plain piece of paper you will need to convert the scan to transparent background and how you do that I have no idea.
It might be possible to get them to sign something like a transparency used for overhead projectors

I would use either the Watermarking feature in Lightroom, or the Identity plate in the Print module. I know the identity plate can be put anywhere, not sure about the watermark. Would need the Google university.

I would imagine the easiest way to get all the signatures would be to use a free drawing app with a smart device. Get a player to sign, save it. Repeat for all players.
Alternatively get them to sign with black marker on white paper, then photo it with your phone, or scan it in.

You need the signature in a format that has a transparent background and png supports transparency (Jpeg doesn't) so you will need to remove the background and save each sig as a png.
It's as simple in Photoshop as "delete all the white". Google will walk you through that. Once that's done, save it as a png and you're done in PS. If you want to change it to another colour you'd have to do that in PS too. Again, Google will tell you how.

Back in LR, whether you use watermarks or identity plates, you'll then need to upload all the png signatures to the right place (Google) and then it should be a simple task to add it.

With Identity plate, you just create the print how you want it to look, then print to jpeg (instead of a printer). This will give you a jpeg file with the signature that you can print via fulfilment. If you print yourself, you can just do it in LR. LR is great for saving presets, so you could have a preset for each player then it would be a 2 click job to create a "signed" print. Don't know how it would work with Watermarks because I haven't used them.

Thank you all, some very helpful advice there. I like the idea of a watermark, as some photos are sold via the website and go straight to the print lab (Loxley). I imagine that I'd be able to create a private gallery for the customer and add the signature via a watermark that way.

Will let you know how I get on!
