Edit My Images
No
I was chatting with a togger/designer pal of mine who's very anal about every aspect of his pp. He mentioned he's stopped using LR as he felt the files were different when exported to PS.

I had a look yesterday and it's true. I noticed my files when opened up in CS5 look dull and flat compared to how I exported them from LR3.

anyone else noticed this?

not sure - are you using the 'edit photo in' option in LR?

if so its possible that you are selecting an option to render the photo is PS without the LR adjustments.

No, I always export as a 16 bit tiff in sRGB.

I always use the edit function with the LR edit included & see no difference myself. I do see some difference with the export function but only minor & wasnt sure if this was to do with the setting in CS where not only is the monitor calibration used but the paper setting.

I'll try that way instead. Ta.

It sounds to me like a colour management issue. Check that LRs colour space, ACRs colour space, and PSs default space are all the same. I don't know, and have never tested, whether RAWs sent to PS by LR go through the ACR engine or not, but it makes sense to keep everything the same.

If your pictures look dull in PS it suggests you are opening the images in a wider colour space in PS then the one you are using in LR.

I'm pretty sure I'm not and this doesn't explain why my pal who works with colour spaces for a living and defo has his set up correctly is seeing the same thing.

It sounds odd. I find it hard to believe that LR renders something very different to its own preview. Does the Same "dullness" appear in other image viewers - particularly bridge? What about if you import the TIFF back into LR?

I thinks it is very unlikely that two pieces of software from the same manufacturer, using the same profiles, on the same monitor, display an image so differently as to be detectable by the naked eye.

Testing...brb.

Weird. It's not doing it now?

No difference for me ,exported from LR3 as a 16 bit srgb tiff and opened in CS3.

Exactly the same except for the exagerated sharpness that LR3 seems to produce when displaying a image compared to CS3.

Hi Peter,

Could you just explain that please a bit as only just started using LR3 and now it's been mentioned the contrast is slightly less,

Cheers
Kris

If you right click on a photo in LR one of the options is "edit in" and you can send it straight to an external programme. PS is the default, but you can set up another in preferences, as well as tell LR what sort of file you want to pass to the external software.
