I use MS Outlook for my email client, I have a Broadband supplier email account and I have set up email forwarding from my website to catch the the emails sent to and from the website email address.

But I am receiving a massive amount of 'Delivery Status Notification' (failure) mails sent to a 'sales@ tomastleyphotography.co.uk'

So every message that I genuinely receive I get one of these sent to the above address but I do not have that email address listed anywhere.

I have run malware/virus checks on my files but everything comes back clean.

I can post a full transcript from one of the messages if that will help.

I am using Outlook 2010 and on XP at the moment (until my new PC arrives)

I am a bit slow on the uptake re delving into settings etc so you will have to be patient with me.

Many thanks.

In all probability this email address is 'spoofed' i.e. someone is using it to send out spam allegedly from the email address that doesn't exist. If you check the email headers you will probably find that it actually comes from some random yahoo/hotmail account.

Thanks but how do I get it to stop sending to my account?

Someone with you in their address book may have a virus that has used the addresses for spoofing.

If you look at the full headers on a bounced message you should be able to find the IP address of the server the message started from in there somewhere. There may also be an abuse report address in the header. If there is then send an email asking them to sort it out. They probably won't but at least you tried.

Chances are the spoof will stop anyway after a while, until then just delete them.

Turn off the "catch all" email feature in your web hosts control panel

Thanks Keith..I am trying to do that at the moment.

OK, when I login to c panel...I cannot find the 'catch all' setting in the email section....

Do all c panels look the same? I am using Vidahost by the way.

cPanel > Email Accounts > Default Address

Select 'Discard with error to sender (at SMTP time)'

Underneath where you see, 'Failure Message (seen by sender):' enter something like 'no such user here'

Then scroll down and click on 'Change'

Now any email sent with anything other than your assigned email address(es) will be returned.

Of course make sure that you do have an assigned email address and you are not just relying on the default to send anything including your assigned address(es) ... or you won't get any emails!

Actually I wouldn't enter any details at all.

Just get onto your host and ask them to disable catch all on your account at there end

Don't reply to sender with an error, just drop the email.

I have mailed support as I cannot find these settings on my cpanel

I definitely do not have a sales@ mydomain registered anywhere....but that is the mail that is causing my trouble.
