Hi all

Is there a straightforward way of saving the account settings (including passwords?) for the situation where you need to uninstall and then re-install the program?

I have found a few refs to saving a subset of the Registry but is there a more elegant way to do it???

FWIW I have already saved my .pst file ;)

If you are uninstalling and reinstalling office on the same PC then you shouldn't need to. It "should" keep your profile in mail in the control panel, it should just simply open the default profile once you've re-installed office.

However, if you wanted to back up the settings to be sure an easy way I've found is to use some software called Mail Pass View which will give you the email settings in a handy text format including the password. It's free and can be found here http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mailpv.html the download is around 3/4 of the way down under feedback for some reason!

If you're moving PC remember to grab the NK2 file (the auto-complete file for when you start typing addresses in the "to" box) and move it into the relevant folder on the new PC. You should be able to find it at c:\users\%username%\appdata\roaming\microsoft\outlook and it should have the same name as your Outlook profile (most likely just Outlook.nk2) if you haven't created one away from the default :)

Just one other thing, the above will work for POP or IMAP accounts, the mailpv software doesn't work for exchange accounts!

Also, just read your other thread so chances are you no longer need this information :)

Hi guys

Yes, as per my other thread the need for a solution is now very much on the back burner :D

But many thanks for the replies and insights :)
