Yes
The sensor on our outside light has started to play up. The light is operated by two switches in the house, one to turn the light on and the other to switch the sensor.

Does this mean that I might be able to get away with replacing the sensor only rather than a complete light

What sympoms make you think the sensor is playing up? short answer is probaby yes. A new PIR will fix it.

Thanks for that. The sensor activates the light but after the 30 seconds when it is due to go off, there is a brief flicker and the light remains on. This process reoccurs every 30 seconds

You could try popping the opaque lens off the front of the PIR sensor (usually possible since they often come with wide and narrow angle lenses) and seeing if there's a spider or similar living inside.

Yep, tenner off of Screwfix. Just wire it up exactly the same as what you have now.

A new installation may be part P but Part P specifically says you can replace control switches without bothering with all that tedious notification and sign off ;) If you're worried at all then a qualified sparkie would probably charge 50 quid but 10 mins with a screwdriver and you should be fine.
