i'm purchasing constant lighting set in a few weeks consisting of 2 heads with bulbs equivalent to 85watts each, the problem i have is i'd like to use them for some outdoor shoots but i don't know how i could power them.

i was thinking of an in car power inverter as ou can get some decent ones but this could put alot of strain on my car battery, i was also thinking of a generator but then it would be a nightmare having to carry it around for every shoot. Has anyone got any tips for me on this, all help would be greatly appreciated

Even if you can power them they will be far too weak to have any effect in daylight. You need a powerful flash for that.

As Garry said, even using speedlights/studio units outside you have to bump up the power on them to get a decent exposure, especially if you are using them during the day.

My SB600's have to be at max power to be able to compete with daylight so 85W bulbs are going to struggle

As Garry says flash is the way to go.
Also have a little look at this thread I started recently. It is not as simple as connecting it to an inverter.
I am still working on mine and I am hopefully going to get something built for less than £200 fingers crossed!
