Outdoor lighting advice

There is another option not and that is the Strobeam EID500 which is both mains and battery powered. I bought the 2 head kit with single battery at SWPP the other week and am impressed. The battery pack is about the size of 2 Canon 580 speed lights and unusually gives 100% power to both heads. At t0.5 the flash duration is 1/8600s. The only downsides are that you only get one 3m long cable and a short coiled cable so, until longer cables are available separation distance of the 2 heads is limited. They are only available from Viewfinder Photography and they are having a lunch day on 11 Feb 12 with special offers on.

Or this. Srsly, fewer people would step on it.

Its the actual stainless bit thats a bit loose though, the heads attach to them no problem and with no play.

Ah. Then you need duck tape.... :)

Just a small clarification....the launch will be by Strobeam of a new product. I should know....... :)

On many stands the mount (spigot) is just pinned through the alloy tube and can be a sloppy fit - just how much movement are we talking about? On low cost stands I would perhaps expect a bit of play (wobbly?) - but no rotation.

My 30+ year old Manfrotto's are tight and exhibit no play at all - the two much newer Jessops ones (which have only been used a few times) were annoyingly loose out of the box, but not enough to reject them.

Not the lights then, just loose spigots on the stands.

If it's bothering you, send them back - I'm guessing that they aren't Lencarta stands but if they are then get in touch with me via email and I'll sort it out for you.

Just be glad that the Safari heads are so small and light - they would wobble a lot more if they were heavy...
