I was reading that the other day. Quite interesting. I'd been inclined to move away from trying to incorporate all the colours relating to England, Wales and Northern Ireland and come up with something very new and fresh.

Just keep as is. I bet most people wouldn't know the Scottish bit anyway. It's traditional and served us well.

Something completely different would be good but I'd feel a bit sad to see the Union Jack go.

I'd love to keep it as it is but it wouldn't be right.

Most of the proposals are just dreadful - everyone recongnises the Union Flag. The absence of Welsh representation in the UF doesn't bother me, I'm proud that we have our own flag and anthem.

Either keep or come up with something completely different.

Far better we keep it as it is, I don't think there's a legal requirement to change it anyway. And I do agree the alternatives I've seen have all been pretty awful.

we English could just use the cross of St George - never mind Scottish independence, how about the English voting on whether we want to be part of a country that includes Scotland, NI, and Wales anyway - we could secede and leave the rest of the 'uk' to cope without us ;)

Be quiet you. I think you'll be stuck with us and there'll be no need to change the flag anyhow.

Just you concentrate on your cricket:cool:

This looks good to me :)

It'll never happen.

I read somewhere that they will still have the queen as head of state. So why does it need to change. The only difference is they won't answer to parliament. However I can't see it happening myself

I grew up in Scotland and my wife lives there, but I'm pretty indifferent to the independence campaign. I'd probably come down on the side of preserving the Union, if I had to choose.

Not sure about the Queen's position in an independent Scotland. Salmond insists that it won't change, but my in laws are fervent nationalists and claim that there's real support for a republic. I'm not sure there is, and I disagree with most of their views, but we'll see.

I used to work at Nigg Bay, Invergorden, Inverness in the mid 70,s Still have friends up there (Dingwall, Contin) who are genuinely worried over the independence yay and nay as it is starting to cause family rifts. The flag should remain as is though.

When I lived back in Northern Ireland they also ran a contest for ideas of a new flag that both communities could appreciate believe there was a lot of the proverbial brown stuff......needless to say it is still an issue....
