We decided a few weeks ago to adopt a rescue dog and in that time we have been looking for an older Springer Spaniel or Cocker Spaniel. We've missed out on a couple recently but today we visited Heathlands Animal Sanctuary in Royston where we fell in love with this little girl.

Yes, I know she's not a Springer or a Cocker but she is adorable. She has been rescued by the charity from Ireland where she was abandoned and about to be put to sleep, she has obviously been neglected and apparently her coat was in an awful state - very matted and consequently this all had to be trimmed. She is really friendly and appears to thrive on human company and contact, how anybody could abandon her is beyond belief. She is very, very thin at the moment but hopefully not for long.

She is still to be speyed and we have to have a home visit but hopefully she will be with us in a couple of weeks where she will be introduced to Biggles and Buster and given some good food, exercise and love.

The only downside is that we cannot decide on a name, any ideas? :)

Thanks Marc, very close to Maisey which is a front runner at the moment, at the moment I'm calling her Clint as in "The dog with no name". :D

The charity believe she is only about 2-3 years old and she has been quite badly treated although this does not appear to have dampened her spirit.
 
A friend had one just like her. It too came from a Rescue Home.
They called it Puzzle. As they weren't sure what she was or what she was originally called.

She does look to be adorable. I find it staggering and amazing that someone can be such a t**t to cause her suffering and distress... and still she has the trust in humans and offers so much love...

Bit off topic but we rehomed our moggy who was abandoned at 1 yr old with 2 tiny kittens - she was found in the middle of a main road...

So so affectionate (when she wants food.... :suspect:)
 
We always struggled to name any of our pets :bang:

We called our dog Mollie , I picked it because I wasn't shouting the names in the park my 7 year old daughter wanted
 
Nice one Colin, it is great to see an animal given a second go at life, how about Bell, or Bella? she looks like the bell of the ball to me :)

Congrats on your new edition Colin, it's always nice to hear about a

We went to a small rescue centre in South Wales, who also collected dogs from Ireland I believe. There was lots of debate about a name & I wanted to call her Maisey because she came from Maesybont. I allowed myself to be talked out of it :suspect:....I regret that :'(:D

Before reading any other post's 'Maisey' was the name I had immediately.
 
given the irish link and her colour I would say

Cochran - meaning red lady

madden - meaning little dog

or Keeva - meaning beauty; grace
 
I can see why you fell for her, she looks adorable, well done for rescuing her. Carrying on the B theme you already have I think I'd call her Beauty as she certainly is.

congratulations Colin, she looks utterly adorable :love: has she been to a river / lake yet? I only ask as she looks suspiciously doodle-like, I guess the irish puppyfarmers are jumping on the band-wagon :(

Maisey is an adorable name, but if she is a 'doodle' of some sort, you might end up calling her something unmentionable as you just can't keep them out of mud, puddles and water!!! LOL!

Snowy? For both the weather and she looks a little like Tintin's dog, albeit a brown version.
 
Aw, she's gorgeous. I can certainly see why you chose her.

Don't particularly agree with bringing dogs over here from Ireland for re-homing seems to be a cushy number for them sending all their unwanteds over here for people to sort out when we've got a big enough problem to start with.

However, I guess its worked in your favour this time. :)

man, everytime I read this sentence I jump near the end when you say boo, so I never get to finish it and find out the dogs name,

one of my colleagues has a border terrier called 'boo' her husband likes to call it 'boobs' and gets some reet funny looks as he wanders round the park shouting "boobs, over here boobs"

How about "Spot"? nice dog now with nice people, we're on our second rescue airedale, it's the only way to get a dog.
