. . . or whoever is in charge of our roads sure do know how to plan these things.

Last week, they turned up to repaint all the yellow lines (including filling in the gaps) - all looking tidy and neat.

Right now as I type, they are putting on this "microsurface" using tar and grit . . . and covering up all the freshly painted lines.

This was taken moments ago after the road layering machine has passed by.

The phrase "cannot organise a pi55 up in a brewery" springs to mind.

Although I don't own a car, I do appreciate the need to try and keep road surfaces in good condition and there is the overwhelming demand for it - but seriously someone in headquarters need to be sacked over this one! Simple logic would suggest putting the top surface on first THEN the lines on afterward?
Oh well, there is that nice new surface for the local boy racers to go racing along - and hopefully go crashing into parked cars being about on account of parking restrictions no longer being there.

definitely one for the local paper and local Town Council
Nothing like wasting money in these austerity times...

I know I should get out more (although I am the official home carer for an elderly mother anyway) but this is most certainly a real case of "left hand and right hand" syndrome.

Heck, the yellow lines are probably still wet from when they were set down last week!

But don't worry, those "micro-surfaces" soon wear off, they did one here a few years ago
and within a week or two, the "bends" were in a worse condition than they were
before they started ;)

:D Especially if the hot weather melts the tar.

Although there's very little danger of THAT happening.

True enough, I guess that it'll most likely get washed away then :D

I am guessing it is a case of the re-surfacing was booked to happen before last week and the line painting booked to follow along, but maybe the re-surfacing was cancelled due to the weather but no one thought to tell the line painting department (assuming they are in different departments).

Still, madness as you say!

That reminds me of a little something, I had always assumed was a joke,
now I am not so sure. ;)

A "local authority" guy was digging holes and his mate was filling them in again.

As I watched for half an hour, curiosity got the better of me and I just had to ask.

"well" said the guy digging the holes,

I'm #1 I dig the holes.

The chap here is #3 he fills in the holes"

What of #2 I asked?

"Ah" said #1. "He plants the trees, but he's off sick today"

 The joys of public sector working.

Hi Ian - i think this will be down to your local council - the HA manage the motorways and major trunk roads.

It would be the Local Authority although anyone and everyone can work on these roads, mainly the utility companies. This could be remedial or permanent reinstatement which needed to be carried out from months and months ago. People think that its just the council who tend to do work on the roads but in most cases its the utility companies messing up and leaving local authorities to usually end up doing their work twice :bonk:

Things like that happen often around here.

Latest, had a road resurfaced last week with the tar and chipping stuff and 2 days later it was all being dug up by gas and electric contractors. (Had been notices of work by them for a few weeks on the road)

I would agree, definitely a normal council road, might be an idea for Ian to forward the photo and story to his local Councillor, they can ask awkward questions of departmental heads that might (miracles can happen ;) ) prevent a reoccurrence.

There is a road around the corner from me thats needed relaying for about the past 10 years! It was truly awful!

So last week I was happy to see them rip it up!! :D

But they've only laid maybe 40metres on one side of the road and about 20 on both sides (which they did in pretty much a thunderstorm!!) and now its stopped raining they haven't bothered to finish it!! (haven't done anything at all this week) and you can see the join in the middle of the road is so nasty that when we get some more rain its going to come right back up again.

Is it really that hard to do a decent job??

Nearly maybe, like they did a very decent job of paving both sides of our street earlier this year ..... spot on construction, took several weeks, beautifully finished with that rubberised tyre stuff in brown around each tree ...honestly it was a stunning job, the whole street was really please.

...guess what they did next ...two weeks later they came round and replaced all the all-ready modern lamp posts with fractionally moderner ones by smashing through the new paving next to the old lamp posts and slopping cement aground each base as a finish ..of course they didn't remove the old lamp posts and use the same hole or anything oh no that would be far to tidy ..., instead another week later, another crew came round to removed all the old lamp posts and also slopped cement into the broken paving holes. So what was a beautifully finished seamless pavement, has been totally ruined in two weeks flat!

 :'(

:lol::lol: just classic!

...I mean if they just all did the tree planting health and safety and awarenesses course things would be a whole lot more simple. ;)
