Ouch .... and walk away!

Really pleased your wife is ok, it's amazing how far cars have come in a short time.

However I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. He passed you at speed, so not braking at this point by the sounds of it, yet you saw the whole thing in your mirror. So at the point he passed you he would've been able to see the junction and your wife should have been able to see him (as you were still moving in the opposite direction yet still see the accident a few seconds later in your mirror). So his brakes locked up, due to no ABS and it being wet, yet he managed to scrub off that much speed that the damage wasn't significantly worse, it doesn't look like a really high speed impact.

It also looks like a really dark road, could your wife not see his lights reflecting on the trees/hedge opposite or on the wet tarmac?

Pleased your wife is okay. In terms of 'fault', in quotes as I'm referring to the insurance / police view rather than making any moral call here, this reminded me of an incident much publicised.

A year or so back there was a video released of a motorcyclist crashing (David Holmes); he was speeding at 97mph in a 60 zone when a car pulled across his path at a junction. The motorcyclist paid with his life but the driver was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.

Even though David was clearly in the wrong in regards his speed, the accident was ultimately caused by the other driver failing to see him and crossing his lane.

Nothing to get your head around. I'd slowed down to allow for her 'to catch up' (I hesitate to say she was following me - she's a good driver and makes her own decisions). By which time I was almost stationary and on the OUTSIDE of the bend with a much clearer view than somebody on the inside of the bend.

Bear in mind you only have my description of what happened and I really can't invest that much time in keeping open an investigation (and 'trial by TalkPhotography') through the typed word, which at it's best is open to all sorts of crazy interpretations!

And.... everybody .... Thank you for all your kind words about my wife!

She's now been out for a drive and, although nervous, has successfully 'got back in the saddle' :)
