Yes
Like most of us here, I contribute to a fair few photography forums - this one being the busiest of them all. Anyway, what I like about this one is that except for one or two recent cases, everyone seems to be pretty much ok. I used to read and post over on the Digital Photo / Practical Photography forum until I got cheesed off with a poster who while saying that their photos were the 'best ever', their web site was not too hot.

Other posters pointed this out to them and then the abuse started on the forum. I gave up with the site because I couldn't be doing with it and have only just returned to it after about three months - only to find the same person still causing grief by trolling the site with needless comments.

Glad to see that this place is currently free from this kind of behaviour. :)

I don't go to those but I find PoTN is quite good for info, especially user comments and reviews and pics. If you want to see sample pics of a certain lens there are archive threads, lots of critique corners too. I can spent ages there reading and reading.

I only come on this one and PoTN. I like PoTN for reviews on cameras etc... But I prefer the community feel on this forum.

I'm a total newbie (i feel) and I think the guys here are really helpful and give me advice, rather than science... if that makes sense?

I used to frequent that magazine's forum about a year ago. It was actually someone on there who pointed my in the direction of TP lol. I've never looked back since.

Photography is so objective that you can find every opinion possible on a shot if you tout it round enough boards.

I only spend time on this forum for photography because it's a great commnity, I know the work of people here well enough to be able to use any comments I get back on my own work and frankly, I grew tired of arguing with know all types that have read all the science but don't actually bother to understand just how it relates to the art of making images.

I've just discovered this forum and must admit the wealth of knowledge and information is fantastic, managed to produce my first HDR image because of an excellent tutorial here - only other I use is thedvdforums - and quite a few members from there are also members here - so pretty much the same type of atmosphere just a smaller community there.

I have been here since it was called something else.... but I can't remember what that something else was...... thank god this is in my bookmarks! ;)

I use here(my favourite by far of course), the photography section of the ocuk forums, deviantart and photo.net. Might join Nikonians sometime as well.

I found this forum and GoSnap at the same time
both friendly and useful places so far :)
haven't looked any further
seem to spend far too much time just keeping up with the posts!

They're bloody fantastic those things :D

Is there anybody on your NOT ignore list DS ... :D

Apart from the transformation of this site way back when ... :suspect: ... I have only really maintained a presence on these here forae ... ... even if I have signed up to half a dozen or so others they do not appear to have held my attention too long at all ... ... can't understand why this one does so really ... :naughty:

I started off on DCM which was pretty good for technical advice but absolute pony for comments and criticism. Then because it was a magazine based forum it got swamped with even more D50 v 300/350D threads than this place;) I came here from there because someone called Matt was pimping a big TPF sig (very brave pimping your own forum on someone elses turf), came here, saw Arkady's work and joined just so I could tell him how great he is. Took me a while to find my way around but have been here ever since. Also joined Ping in between here and DCM but it went offline for upgrades for quite a while and seemed to lose something for me in the process. I didn't think much of the feedback on there either which is why I always use this place for an honest appraisal. The only other regular visit nowadays is Dyxum for my manufacturer specific fix (Minolta/Sony to those of you who can't work it out) and the latest rumours about what Sony will bring out next. It's very entertaining to read what the Americans want their cameras to do and what they think will be included on the new models. It puts all other brand speculation to shame quite frankly.

This is the only photography forum I'm a member on. Its friendly and helpful and most of the members are great.
But the main reason I ONLY come on this photography forum is that I could not keep up with anymore posts - indeed I can't even begin to keep up with all the posts here. :gag:
Rich :)

Me too. I haven't been to the other site for a very long time though

Theres other photography forums:shrug:

;)

GPWM. Has anyone actually seen his sicknote? ;)

I think I have only ever used the ignore function once - and not here. If you find the need to 'ignore' then that forum is probably not for you and it is time to move on.

I don't even know if this forum has an ignore function. It's certainly not needed.

The only problem here is the dodgy mods :naughty:

Yeah over 3300 people aren't on it Rog ;)

Is that why I don't get replies........b****r :D

Nah you're not on my ignore list, can't vouch for anyone else though Lee :p

I think I have only ever used the ignore function once - and not here. If you find the need to 'ignore' then that forum is probably not for you and it is time to move on.

On the contrary, why should I let a few people I don't really like/get on with stop me from visiting something I've been involved in for over a year? This way I can still enjoy the forum and can cut out the bits I didn't like reading, which is always nice.

I'm open to suggestions on where to move on to though, if you've got any :) ;)

I've never used an ignore list. does it just chop out the posts from people on it, or whole threads where they've been?

Just their posts, so you can still read threads and things but when you come across a post from someone on an ignore list it is minimized to a small rectangle and has.

This post is hidden because username is on your ignore list.

If you're not bothered about what that person has to say anyway then it doesn't impact the reading/flow of a thread I've found.

Ok, I see. Now I know why I don't use them. Never actually read threads properly anyway so I guess I've been doing this for years without knowing it. ;)

The forum board over at Digital Photo is a rather basic text set up only and to my knowledge doesn't have the ignore option . Anyway, my comment was that at least this place seems to have people on their best behaviour :clap: and not just posting comments to wind other users up. :rules: :)

I've been a member on here since way back when and witnessed the phoenix rise from the ashes (so to speak) ;) I've been on other photography forums but much prefer the community feel and friendliness of this place. Now, it's the only photography based forum I ever visit, and I need a daily fix otherwise I start going cold turkey

You can say that again JPS.;)

You're gonna have to stop all these veiled comments about boards rising from the ashes folks, it's getting a bit cliquey in here ;)

Ok, I see. Now I know why I don't use them. Never actually read threads properly anyway so I guess I've been doing this for years without knowing it. ;)
Depends where you are.
Some places we would have sod all to read if it weren't for the posts we didn't want to read.

I used the AP ones for a while but never really felt at home there. This place felt much friendlier so I stuck around. I don't participate in any other forums, barely get chance to keep up to date with this one.
