Wondering if anyone uses any other photography forum than this one, and if so, which ones? Have to say i've never found any as good as this one!

The only other forum I am a member of is Nikonians but TP is much better in that the variety of posts is greater and it's also good to read comments from non-Nikon owners.

Nikonians started to go down hill (and continues in that direction) once they dropped their free membership level.

I looked arount POTN and numerous others but found them to vary between boring and rude and one which I can't remember which unless you knew exactly what you were talking about were felt to feel completely stupid...

Find here to be well balanced and freindly compared to the others I've found so far...

that sounds pretty good

there are no other forums.

Missing my forum buddies on the SWPP forum.

Must admit it took me a while to get use to this one as there is so many threads and so many people compared to what I was use to.

Sometimes I read Digital Photography School. I prefer this site because (A) I think it's better and (B) It's UK based, as opposed to being based in the US. That makes it far more personal to me and more interesting.

Having said that, DPS is not too bad as a back-up.

I found DPReview before this, it's a good review site, with comprehensive forums... but the attitude was, well, let's just say people are far nicer on here...!

I only go there now to check their reviews.

A forum is only as good as its membership :D

I do use/d to use another forum but since discovering TP late last year (can't believe I never knew about it before then!!), I hardly visit that forum. Only reason I am not mentioning the name is because I did learn quite a lot from that forum when I first started out and there are a few amazing togs there too, but I find that the quality of banter/ciritique/feedback on this forum is second to none and people here aren't afraid of giving you honest, open and constructive feedback and not always necessarily telling you what you want to hear. The other forum has just turned in to a general photo sharing site and the level of critique seems to vary from "great pic, lol", "nice pic", "wow!" etc etc.....without any real or meaningful C&C which for me is extremely important to enable me to continue developing my skills. There is a good mixture of ameteurs/enthusiasts/pro's on this forum too which makes it all the more interesting as I feel I can learn from everyone's comments and also hopefully provide some constructive feedback myself where I feel I'm suitably qualified to!

Finally, I think if Carlsberg made photography forums.....they'd have made TP!

I agree with you completely there :) I did the exact same, I used to be on a forum then found this one and never went back lol.

What does 'other forum' mean? I no know of this 'other forum' that thee speaks of?

If you believe this is the best forum around, I see no problem with giving another forum's name out.

I was happy to provide the name of the other forum I tend to read (there are others as well) as I don't believe that exclusive reading of one community is always the best way to learn/be involved/share.

Well I have only taken photography seriously for just over a year now and knew nothing before that and I have to say finding this site was one the most pivotal factors in my development as a photographer! It really is a one stop shop for photographers.. And a testament to it's creator/s..

By the time I've ploughed through the new posts on here every day, I don't have time for any others, or any need :)

For me a great photography forum has the following:

1. A crop of active top end photographers who frequently give quality answers/tutorials

2. A wide spread of abilities spread across the membership, so you can help as often as you get helped.

3. A big and active membership with many interesting posts a day

Until I found TALKPHOTOGRAPHY, my favourite was PHOTOCAMEL.

Photocamel is fabulous and I recommend anyone to join. But it is based in the States/Canada, and the top photographers there are almost too good - they are so active and so awesome that sometimes us mortals don't bother posting because in a few hours time there will surely be the most amazing answer. It is a terrific resource for learning and there are some excellent tutorials...better than you find in some books.

I'm a newbie here at TP but this is now my favoured forum.

It is UK based and there are some fabulous and active top photographers supporting it. There are an enormous number of posts a day and it's a welcoming place with a nice combination of gratitude and generosity.

I love it. Thank you TP!

I was a regular visitor to AVForums, but haven't been back since discovering TP.
I can honestly say that TP is in a different class altogether.

....whilst TP is excellent

...I have yet to find a way of rewarding a good TP poster with feedback points. The only system I can see is for trades.

Is there a way of acknowledging your gratitude and respect for a poster?

(may be TP isn't quite perfect after all - room for improvement? ...it is excellent nonetheless.)

dyxum.com

Required reading for Sony / Minolta users and the lens database is excellent, contains pretty much every a-mount lens ever produced, with owner reviews. I also sell there when I have a lens or accessory I no longer want.

Agree with that plus some folk that were on ego trips.

we did dabble with the Thanks button before but at the moment we are laying off modifications as VB4 is being investigated, we will move to that pltform when bod gets a week off...

thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Ditto, although I still keep an eye on the AVForums classifieds.

I'm on a few more specialised ones, talkurbes (born from tp), foxx2 (not very active at all) and considering joining the event photography one

I think i followed a link here from digital forums, not sure - but I think this forum is excellent, almost addictive.

I also visit the cameralabs website & forums. I like Gordon's reviews, he shows you the cameras features, gives you a couple of similar rival models to compare with & comes across as unbiased.

They are all pretyy much the same TBH all with the same people, the same egos and the same arguments

I'm a member at one of the magazine forums, under the same user name. Also a member at a couple of F1 forums.

I do also use photo.net, as sometimes when I need to find out about something more specialised, (bizarre PS and Elinchrom questions), I get more answers on there. However I don't like their forum layout, and for general day to day stuff this is by far the best. Keep it up guys

I also visit Nikonuktalk, still a fledgling forum, but Uk based and only Nikon :D

AVForums used to have a buzzing photographic section, but they changed the layout a while back and its not as good anymore.

TP have answered my questions, and allowed me to meet up with some great peeps.
