As above, when i used to go a walking I never found a camera bag that was good enough for hiking and photography, ended up with the stratos 36 and byob insert and it was great, thats a good few years ago and all sold. Now ive rejoined the micro 4/3rds with a new OM1 Mk2 with 12-40mm Im looking at getting out into the landscape again and wondering if people have any good suggestions that have come along in the last few years?

I think so as a vfm option. I'm using a Stratos with a Tenba insert and really like the comfort of the mesh back. If you are looking at a more photography focussed option with carrying comfort then I believe f Stop and Shimoda are rated quite highly but aren't that cheap

I use an Osprey Kamber with an insert. Rear opening too ;)
Interesting, never seen the kamber i have to admit, the only thing that still sways me to the stratos is the net "keep off your back" system what ever that is called.

Update, found a new damaged stratos 36 from outdoor leisure on ebay, broken buckle. £93 delivered and bought a Sea to Summit "in the field" replacement buckle for a tenner. £70 quid saved (y)

I've bought probably 10 lowepro backpacks over the years, great camera bags, terrible for hiking.

Funnily enough I picked up a Stratos 36 a couple of weeks ago as it was on offer in my local Go Outdoors, due to them closing for refurbishment. I've used it once and I have to say it's incredibly comfortable even when fully loaded with a tripod strapped to it as well. Yes using inserts can be a bit of a faff compared to just being able to open a dedicated camera bag and have all your gear there, but the supreme comfort and lack of a sweaty back far outweighs that. Wish I'd done it sooner!

I've got a posh Shimoda Explore 35 that I use for photography and it's better than all the other camera bags I've tried or seen, and lets me get access to all my kit really quickly. But it's nowhere near as comfortable as my Osprey (I've got a Kestrel). I use the Shimoda for the ease of access and just keep in mind that I'm not going to be walking as far with the bigger camera kits. If it's a bit walk I'd take much less kit and the comfier bag.
