I got a 500 Gig external hard drive for Christmas and have started capturing video footage from my camcorder. I've got about 20 hours of footage and am about half way through! The software I've got (An Premier version 6) can only capture as AVI so it is talking up plenty of space and it stops every 18minutes and I have to have a new file (The size limit seems to be 2 gig for a file)

I will therefore have about 70 2 Gig Files split somewhat randomly but chronologically for the last 7 years.

Have any of you clever bods got any ideas for what to do with them now. I could go through it manually and create smaller AVI files and import those into Photoshop elements file organiser but that would be very laborious. Is there any decent software which splits it where there are natural stops in the footage an gives thumbnails? I guess some kind of compression wouldn't hurt either...

My second plan is to somehow stream it accross the wireless network to the TV so any suggestions for that would also be welcome.

Thanks in advance and happy new year.

the reason why it's only capturing 2 gig at a time is because your hard drive may be configured to FAT 32,and it will stop after between 2 and 4 gig, it needs to be NTFS and then it should capture a whole mini dv tape which takes up about 12-14 gigabytes in AVI (still loads i know) you can then convert to MPEG 4 with the right software, something like "ulead video studio" or "sony vegas" or "adobe premiere elements" and put on a DVD disc,if you need to get any of this software pm me and i should be able to get a copy to you sometime next week, hope this helps.

Hi Tel, I did leave the hard drive formatted as FAT32 as I am considering buying a Mac laptop and thought NTFS wasn't compatible with Mac, is that right?

i've sent you a pm
