Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with ordering lenses from HK. I have seen a website 'onestop digital' which offer to repay any customs fees. Do they do this quickly and easily (does it include royal mails £9 collection fee). I've seen a couple of lenses that look to be a lot cheaper and wanted to make sure there were no unexpected extras!

Also It's been suggested that its not a good idea to buy sigma lenses from abroad as their QC is not great and although customer services is meant to be excellent they will only deal with UK lenses.
Are canon lenses more consitent and do they honor an international warrenty when duty has not been paid?

To get Sigma UK to repair a lens under warranty you have to be able to show proof of VAT paid. With HK sales the only problem you might have there is that your lens might get through customs without you having to pay. OneStop will refund your VAT quickly and you get to keep the receipt so you still have proof of it being paid, they tend to undervalue items though to cut their own liability which 'could' pose a problem for you (It didn't for me)

To be honest, unless it's an expensive item and you're saving a couple of hundred quid, you are as well paying UK price, I've seen UK prices very close to HK ones recently.
 
hi nixtoo, i would try dropping a pm to kerso on the forums, he tends to be about the same as the hk importers, but the lenses are already in the uk. he gives a uk invoice which canon accept and will do warranty repairs.his prices on sigma lenses are about on par with uk prices though.

personally with sigma lenses, i have one, i bought it from a uk dealer after reading that the sigma warranties are country based and the QC problems i have seen written about. the lens came from warehouse express and works great. bear in mind that for every 1 complaint there is more than 10 that work fine.

i was happy to pay the extra for the ease of return if there is a problem, but hk will exchange faulty products as long as you pay to send it back to them(which can get expensive the bigger/heavier the lens).
 
I'm looking at quite cheap lenses and the prices are different by about £50, which at the moment is quite a bit of money to me. Kerso's prices are about £30 more. This is on the canon lenses.
 
If Kerso is only £30 more, I'd wait, save a bit more and buy from him.
 
I'm in the same boat, £220 from Onestop or £280 from Jessops (Sigma 24-70).

I can't make my mind up if £60 is worth the hassle / risk :bang:

Purely gadgets are grey imports, not covered by Sigma UK & the Summer15 discount at Jessops doesn't seem to be working :shrug:.I might pop into DigitalDepot (5 mile away) & see if they'll match Purelygadgets :naughty:

be carefull to stay away from cheap " Sigma Canon" copy's
 
Bought from One Stop My self, saved myself a load. Had no probs whatsoever.
 
Thanks for the replys, I'm sorted, bought the 55-250mm from someone on here and I found the 18-55mm (IS) on camerabox. Very pleased with the prices!
 
Just bought a Sigma 24-70 from Digital Depot.



If I'm not on the forum later it's because MrsGubby has found out :'(
