After missing a few in the secondhand market and pleased I did now, I have just ordered the body and kit lens, thanks to the price drop, quidco & tesco vouchers.

It should be in store to collect on Saturday so looking forward to bank holiday weekend and getting out and seeing how it performs :)

any tips on how to get the best out of it especially for landscape and portrait

Where from?

Portrait... budget for the battery grip. Makes a massive difference on the camera. Though saying that, I don't use mine often enough!

Enjoy the full-frame goodness :D

Can I ask how much you got it for in the end?

WITH 24-105 LENS ITS £2149 MINUS 3% CASHBACK = £2096 then I used £255 of tesco vouchers which makes £510 so it will only cost me £1586 :)
and some used bodies were going for £1400 at the top end.
but as I was going to pay £575 for a used lens its more like a new body for only £1,000. That way it sounds like I could not not buy it :lol::lol:

Two additions I would suggest you getting are a few decent CF Cards and a Black Rapid strap. As mentioned by groovyf, a battery grip makes taking portraits more comfortable (well it does for me)

Welcome to the wonderful world of FF

Ian

Recommendation:

Buy 'quick' glass.

Shoot wide open.

watch people go ooooh at your photos.

As already stated,

Use some of that great saving you got to make the package even better

1: A Grip - The £50 Ebay ones are fine
2: A decent CF Card, the 32GB 400x Trancend ones are great for about £55 hold 1000 full size RAW and Large Jpgs and are as fast as you will need.

A big smile and a Homer Simpson drool for every time you look at those great images, enjoy your kit and you got a stonking deal.

One quick tip for Jessops they are not unknown to sell returns as new, although if its a new delivery to store you should be OK, just give it the once over if the seal on the box has been opened, and check the manufacture date, on the box the Serial Number will start (21) XX are the next two digits, 28 onwards were 2011 made bodies, 28 in Jan 2011. 29 in Feb etc etc to 35 in Aug 2011, so make sure you are not getting an oldie that has been sat in storage for ages,

A friend of mine bought a 24-70 from them, he got the email at 4pm to say it was in stock, drove down to collect it before they closed, and the Manager whinged he was collecting it that night as he had wanted to take it home and play with it and was expecting him to collect the next day., Cheek of it!!.

thanks for the tip on serial numbers, I did wonder if it was possible to date them.
I am hoping they are new stock as Jacobs has the same deal so I was thinking they either got a deal to push stock or its the start of the stock run out before the MkIII hits the shops next year.
either way I will check it as suggested.
and I will just have to get used to smiling :)

Looks like Jacobs and Jessops are having a price war. Both seem to have dropped prices by £200 or more overnight yet none of the other guys seem to be following.

If I hadn't spent all my money on my and my families holidays I could have been tempted.

Still, so happy with my 7D that I will stick to Plan A. Wait for MK3 to be released. If it's amazing then break the bank and go for it.

It is possible the Mk 111 could be on the horizon as Canon's 3 year cycle for the 5DMk 11 comes up next month, but with what happened in Japan eariler this year the Mk111 could be delayed as the Mk11 was in short supply for ages.

But whatever you've still got a super camera, beware though the level of glass used can either make or break your photography with the 21 plus mega pixels, go for the "L" lens and your on a winner.

that must have been a short running offer re the grip as I missed that one.

My tip is not to be afraid of using insanelly high iso values !

This sensor gives clean images when images other bodies look grim and grainy and when you do go too high they clean up nicelly using third party NR software.

Exactly what you would regard as "high" I guess depends upon your taste, of course.

I used to be a bit sniffy going above iso 1600 but the 5D2 images are pretty clean even up there and you can go much, much higher.

Have a play with Auto ISO.
Auto ISO only goes as high as ISO 3200, and I know I can create a clean looking print at A3+ with no noise reduction (even though viewing at 100% looks terrible).
When hand-holding, Auto ISO combined with IS pretty much ensures the image is going to be bitingly sharp.

I've also accidentally printed A3+ from an image at ISO 6400 (this one) with no noise reduction, it was fine!

just checked warehouse express and cannot see the free grip link as I am still waiting for the jessop vouchers to arrive:(
do you have a link

found it on main page, just it does not appear when you click on the product and details come up, thanks for heads up again
