Yes
Looking at a pair of 5D mk3 bodies with grips, buying from HDEW will save £430 but I'm mainly concerned about CPS membership as I'm platinum currently and want to be sure the cameras will be ok to be registered.

I'm basically happy with HDEW and obviously want to save, however trying to convince myself about the CPS situation.

Would love to get your thoughts.

As you can't get UK warranty on grey imports I would be amazed if Canon would allow CPS service on them.

Probably worth a phone call to them and specifically ask if they will cover Hong Kong products.

My 5D mkIII is a Panamoz purchase, and is registered with CPS cover, you won't get any warranty cover (no free repair unless they feel charitable), but you can expedite any repair as a CPS member.
Bear in mind that CPS members are pro-togs who travel the world to cover an event, with often a CPS centre at the big events to service pro-togs (non-UK based togs serviced in the UK).
So will definitely be eligble for CPS.

Why would you be amazed? CPS has nothing to do with warranties, it's a service that Canon extend to their professional members to speed up the repair service. That's all.

Mark - yes you can register HDEW supplied kit with CPS.

Sweet, thanks guys, I'd been ok with lenses from Kerso getting registered, but people said they were more fussy when it came to bodies, so it's good to get some other input.

Just in case anyone else has had any similar/different experiences it would still be good to hear.

:)

So considering the fact it can be difficult to get Canon to repair non-EU sourced stock (there have been a number of threads over the years where Canon have refused to even do a chargeable repair on some HK sourced kit), so what would CPS then achieve? A quicker refusal?

Have there? I've seen a couple of rumour reports saying that Sigma are about to stop dealing with non UK sourced items, but I've never seen one that says Canon have point blank refused to do paid work on one of their products.

Not sure if it's any help, but WEX are currently offering a free Canon battery Grip with the 5dmkIII

http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-...cd18abcf094b386170a972f295ac17a&utm_source=aw

You could sell them on if they were no use to you.

If you sold them for £200 each, there is £400 back, even if you sold them each at half price, you'd only be £130 out of pocket, would have UK sourced bodies and no issues with Canon or CPS - no brainer for me for £75 a body.

If they were of use, then again, wipes out the additional cost...

Hope it's of some help

Unforunately, the £430 difference has taken the free grips into consideration as I always work with grips, even my wife's little 500D has a grip on LOL.

I have both UK and non-UK stock registered with the CPS programme...

I have also had a non-UK item repaired through the CPS..

I'm also a platinum member..

Aah, that's makes it a bit more difficult then....

Of course CPS has something to do with warranties! Yes, you can register any Canon kit with them, but free warranty repair jobs will require proof of purchase from a UK retailer to be honoured. I believe you're also entitled to a free sensor clean during the warranty period, which you also wouldn't get on an import without a UK invoice.

CPS has nothing to do with warranty. It is about the speed with which your repairs and services are dealt with.

Yes it has a couple of fringe benefits, but they are a side issue.

Ah hang on, I think I was getting confused between CPS and Canon Servicing generally. Whilst service centres obviously check warranties and so forth, you're right, the additional CPS benefits don't have anything to do with them, my bad.

Have used both one for a body and one for a lens, saved £120 on the body and around £80 on the lens from official UK prices

No problems, good comms and delivery within a week

No experience of their after sales though
