I know there's a few ringflash threads around but I wanted to reopen this particular quandry as I'm thinking about buying one or 'tother.

I've read a few reviews but thought I'd see if anyone on here has any experience with either (or both ideally), and which they prefer. Go on then....

Orbis

Love mine, works with any body / lens combo as long as the lens fits through the hole.

I can mount it on a light stand and shoot through it or around it.

I can hold it "off camera"

It's easy to pack in a bag too.

It's also cheaper to buy direct from Orbis (they ship from a UK warehouse) than from any reseller.

Thanks dude.

I like the fact you can use it as on camera direct flash (obviously) but the fact you can use it as an off camera soft fill in really appeals to me too.

I thought the orbis was British - price and shipping seems to be in dollars on their site?

Think they're NZ based, US dollars is a more consistent "global" currency which is probably why they use it, and they definitely ship from the UK for EU orders, so even though you're paying in USD, the only thing you worry about is the exchange rate as VAT, Duty etc is all taken care of.

I've a first generation RayFlash which I think is worse than the one I made out of cardboard and a plastic tablecloth. Maybe newer versions are better but most people seem to prefer the Orbis. There is a review of the Orbis in this months Photo Pro magazine. The reviewer trashed the Ray Flash when he reviewed thatbut quite likes the Orbis.
