Good news. This should work on the 4g LTE iPad 3's if I'm not mistaken?

My understanding is Orange and T Mobile have jumped on the LTE 4g currently in use as per the US and Australia as they don't have to bid for the UK spec bandwidths and can use them straight away. Given how many iPad 3s in use, and the fact the iPhone 5 will use LTE this makes sense.

I guess 4g LTE will be established and dominant by then, given the massive already established Apple LTE gear.

Orange will be using 1800MHz as per their current network. HSDPA+ speeds will also increase slightly. If your not in Bristol you wont get anything anyway (only city they are running it in)

Not going to work on Apple 'LTE' devices over here. "According to Apple U.K.'s info page, the new iPad will support the 700MHz and 2100MHz LTE bands found in the stateside AT&T version, which don't match the 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz LTE bands being rolled out across Europe."

Those bands arnt currency running in the uk, it's those frequencies that are up for bidding and won't be available until next year. As they are starting next month on the existing network, this suggests they'll use another band, and I should imagine it's the band that existing LTE gear uses, ie iPad 3's. Otherwise they'd be no point in offering it next month!

That's the way I read it anyway.

800 and 1800MHz are the bands we currently use. Orange are going to utilise their 1800MHz band for this LTE they are offering from next month in Bristol.

Almost guarantee that 2600MHz will the the main UK LTE band with it already being rolled out at that across Europe.

It doesn't look like Orange and T Mobile will be bidding for the 2600 band? I suspect orange and t mobile will use 1800 nationally.

Why pay for 2600 when they are already using 1800 at no extra cost?

lower cost of handsets?

Very likely for Orange and T Mobile as they don't have to transfer the cost of the bandwidth licence to the customer, hense why Vodaphone and o2 are spitting feathers! That and other companies have to wait until next year to offer 4g on the other bandwidths.

im not surprised really, its very anti competitive from ofcom. at least 3 are in talks with EE to buy some of their allocation, that would hamper their "best internet" status.

Current UK frequencies are 900, 1800 and 2100 (being o2 and Voda, T-Mob/Orange and the 3G WCDMA networks repectively.

EE doing a trial on excess 1800 makes sense, they have more than enough of it after the merger.
