OptimusBri's self portrait 365

Your best yet - a superb shot .

Another one to follow to get inspiration!

You feel frustrated and then come up with this image for day 12? You should get frustrated more :) It's a beautiful image. Great use of light from the window and that reflection and those eyes is just so haunting.

I think it's the others on flickr who will be wondering why they can't shoot like this

One thing I might like to see is the reflected eyes looking into the camera instead.

I did actually do that for a couple of shots! Some of them are up Flickr - just posted the link. You'll be able to see them there :)
Actually, there's only one shot that I put up there that has my reflection looking at the camera. I have about 3/4 shots where I'm doing that, I just haven't put them up.

Having seen the others that you've put up I think you've made the right decision here. It's a lovely set but this one does stand out. Nice to see you looking at the camera ;)

Lovely Shots! You are very good! At least you have the confidence to do a SP...I couldn't do one even with no-one around!

Just thought I'd drop in since you were nice enough to reply to my 365 project thread. WOW - No 12 is fantastic, just an overall great shot and the fact that it's a self portrait makes it even more impressive.

I might give this a try tomorrow if I'm brave enough - I've never done a self portrait before. Any tips that you care to offer? One thing in particular I would like to know about is focusing. Also, do you use a timer or a remote :)

Thanks :)

seems to have been said once or twice but 12 is fantastic...keep it up!

Thanks again everyone! :)

Well I had never done self portraits before I started my 365 so I'm still learning too. Urgh, focusing - I find it so difficult! Sometimes I have put something in the place of where I'll be, focus on that (in manual), and then position myself in the same place. Other times, I have used auto focus. It's just trial and error.

Currently I use the self timer - it's driving me insane, I hate it! Having 10 seconds to get in position, then having to keep going back to the camera to press the button to take another photo is NOT fun. Luckily I have ordered a remote which I should be getting soon. I think it will be my life saver haha :) However if you're only doing the odd self portrait then using self timer will be fine.

have a look here, they're mostly sp's he focusses on his tripod from where he is, then puts it on the camera and goes and stands where he was ;)

12 is so good, ace. I'm a big fan of B&w portraits, lovely. ;)

Huh? So he puts his tripod somewhere, stands a certain distance away from it with his camera and focuses on the tripod. Then he puts the camera on the tripod, keeping it in the same place, and goes back in the position he was originally in? Or have I just completely confused myself?

Had a look at his photos too - they're awesome!

yeah, he sents up his shot, then goes to where he wants to be for the shot, focusses on his tripod, flicks it to MF to locj the focus and takes the shot using radio trigger/self timer

This is no longer yesterday's photo - I re-edited it and it's a couple of posts down :)

its a nice idea, the dof is good. i would convert to b&w apart from the eyes which i would leave colour...

very good, I personally find your right arm a bit distracting...maybe a little PP blurring..?? Would be interested to see it in B&W - even maybe boosting the saturation of your gorgeous green eyes? Just MHO, very impressed with all your shots. ;)

Thanks for the comments and suggestions guys :)

I wasn't 100% happy with the photo to begin with, and your comments kind of confirmed that. So I edited it again and I'm happier with it now. Still not amazing but I think it's better.

I did try it in black and white right at the start actually, but I preferred the colour version. And I also tried using selective colouring on the eyes like ianhl suggested but it made me look a bit scary  so colour version it is!

Great set Bri. Love self portraits and these are very expressive, keep pushing yourself. Reminds me of Lise Sarfati a bit, cant wait to see more

Thanks Alex and Vicky :)

Urghh I'm trying to keep pushing myself but it's getting difficult already and today is only day 14! I still haven't taken my photo yet...better go and do that now :help:

Well if you dont feel like you have anything to put in everyday then dont do it :D Its better to have a few good self portraits than get sick of it. You're first three were good as well!

Also dont forget self portraits dont have to feature you in the photograph, just something that represents you!

I WILL do it! :) I am determined - I just have the odd day where I feel a bit lost for what to do! I'm sure I'll have learnt a lot and got better by the end of it.

And as for not featuring me in the photograph, personally I feel that featuring myself in the photo is essential for self portraits. So you'll have to put up with seeing 365 photos of me whether you like it or not :p

:lol::lol: Looking forward to it!

good rework of day 13...cropping the arm really tightens it up, much improved!

great set of photo's so far :)

is this a normal 365 or a self portrait 365, as it started off normal, but seams to have gone the latter now?

didnt see your original version of 13, but like the new one.. really emphasizes the colour of your eyes..

I did originally start off taking photos of pretty much everything and anything, but then I did a one off self-portrait and it kind of led on to doing all self portraits. I prefer doing self portraits as I feel it's a lot more challenging and I'll be a lot better for it when I come to the end of my 365. Plus, it makes me plan things more and try and make it more interesting rather than taking a shot of any old thing :)

Thank you :) The original shot is actually a few posts up. I kept it there so people can compare!

ahh cool, it will defo be a hard challenge, trying to think of a self-portrait for each day, good luck :)

LOVING todays, the tones are just lush and the beads back wall and top/dress work really well together. Proper sharp too.

whats your conversion process for black and white, they always look really nice.

Nice to see that you're doing a 365 with self-portraits now. This'll be a very impressive thread at the end. Good luck with the self-portrait aspect of things. (=

Yeah, it'll be a real challenge... I say good on ya! lol

If you hadn't worked out, but i've bookmarked your thread! :D
