Been trying to scan text documents, but want to do it with the OCR scanning method. Need to scan A4 documents, and save them as files on the PC. Need to add / alter text in pages, then keep them as editable text documents. Don't want them saved as images. It would take ages typing up from scratch, as there are a lot of pages.

I have tried some free online Optical character recognition sites, but with just dummy test images, a bit hit and miss reading the scanned images. Just not too sure about uploading private documents, as images to an unknown site. Tried a few iphone OCR apps, and they just do not seem to work.

Anyone tried anything successfully?

I use ABBYY Finereader at work and it does a great job.
Its 99 quid for a full license version but you could try the 30 day trial version if you have less than 100 pages that you wish to scan.

I use scanner pro on iOS, not as good as abbyy, but a lot cheaper!
